[/li][li]American Imperialism[/li][/ul]** For eight of those, the OP has been banned: three Threads started by **Cosmored** and five were started by **notipping**. One is a pitting of a poster who’s just been banned, **James Otto Sweet Heart**. One is a Thread _about_ a banned poster, [the topic has been resumed here as a ATMB Thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=686807). Really, it’s the crazy amount of Threads by **Cosmored** and **notipping** that bring the count up artificially high. Some banned posters have been banned for the sole reason (no cite) that they joined and immediately started a ridiculous number of Threads without participating in discusssion, so I imagine we’ve hit equally high numbers of locked Threads before. ---

Well one group of posts should be disqualified from the record because the obvious goal of that troll was to see how many pit threads he could start before a banning. Allowing that is like winning the footrace because you were using a bicycle. ---

LMAO!! The very first time I landed at LAX was… about 1988. They actually still played that recording. I busted up laughing- completely lost it standing there at the curb. Baggage handler for one of the airlines looked at me and smiled and said, " Airplane " ? 😃 Bit of amusing trivia: The man abandoned at curbside/ half ON the curb was [Howard W. Koch](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0462322/), the Producer of the film. Kind of makes those close-ups of the taxi meter that much more hilarious to know that as the film progressed, the Producer was outraged as the overages !! ( Far as I’ve ever read, the film was completed on time and on budget, but it’s a rich inside joke ). ---

Ouch. In reading through the [Trivia page](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080339/trivia), it mentions that it wasn’t Howard Koch in the taxicab, but instead one Howard Jarvis. :smack: ( I like the version I’d heard better. But it isn’t the Straight Dope. ) ---

The man in the taxi was Howard Jarvis, the man behind California’s Proposition 13, which is the reason the taxi meter running so high was funny. ---
