Tennis 2013 Thread

Federer not playing Montreal . No reason given.

Nadal just be Djokovic in a 3rd set tiebreaker. Nice match. And that, oddly enough, was the semifinal.

Nadal wins the Rogers Cup…on to Cinci:)

I wish I could have seen any of the Rogers Cup. We couldn’t find any station that carried it. ESPN2 had it listed on the cable guide, but when we clicked to it, they were covering something else. I tried to stream it, but TennisTV wanted me to subscribe to the tune of $21 a MONTH. I look at RogersCup.com and they indicated it would be aired on Sportsnet or CBC. I searched and couldn’t find either.

Bummer.

But very excited that my hometown tourney has started. I have SWEET front row seats for Friday night, so I’m hoping it’ll be the anticipated Federer v Nadal Quarterfinal.

Goooo Rafa!

Just saw something on Twitter than Marion Bartoli has announced her retirement after losing in Cincinnati earlier today. She will be 29 in about six weeks.

Ah, good for her. She won the Wimbledon and is sore all the time.

Congrats for winning a major.

I feel bad for you, both semis and final matches were fantastic. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a better HC game (including his 2010 run) from him. He went H2H with Nole and got the better of him in a blistering tie-breaker and simply annihilated Raonic in the Final, making him look, at best, average.

Now, Cincy. Doesn’t really matter to Rafa if he wins it or not – though his competitive drive says the opposite – all that really matters is him getting maximum points on Djokovic & Murray. And since he has no points to defend a 1/4 or semi appearance will do the trick. In fact, and apologies ahead of time, I don’t want to see a “balls-out” Rafa in this tournament but rather a consistent one with his “new-found” aggressive game – his health is more important. That’ll be more than enough to send him into the USO not just full of confidence, but as one of the top three favorites…and you know who they are.

PS – jealous of your ticket – but pencil that one in, be it Haas or Federer, Rafa moves ahead to semis. If anything, Dimitrov might prove more of a challenge tonight. Murray might be a different story…they haven’t met in two years and Andy, under Lendl, has matured a lot. Just not sure he isn’t still Rafa’s subbie w/out a collar.

That’s too bad about Bartoli - impermanent as retirements in tennis can be - but it makes it that much nicer that she managed to win a major before she called it a day. Tsonga just pulled out of the Open because of continuing knee problems.

Saw Rafa play twice and he’s looking incredibly focused.

Federer has lost his mojo, but luckily he played against Tommy Haas, who couldn’t keep the momentum going. I don’t think Federer has a prayer of beating Nadal tonight, only because he doesn’t believe he can beat Nadal.

Murray is looking very sharp, too.

And the surprise of this tournament has been Tursunov, who has been playing out of his mind. I don’t know if anyone can beat this kid when he’s dialed in. He made Ferrer look like an amateur yesterday.
Goooo Rafa! Gooo Andy!

Djoko is off his game a wee bit, loses the first set in tie break to Isner

Conners /Sharapova…no more. I thought it was an odd combo.

It lasted all of one match!

Isner pulled off the upset!

Yep, surprised am I !

Murray down a set and a break!

Berdych did beat Murray. And Federer took the first set off Nadal.

The Fed/Nadal match was a nail biter…

Isner is through looked like Del Po did a walk about in the second set, never recovered.

Isner just cannot make life easy on himself. If he’s up 3 breaks, he’ll find a way to let the other guy back in. He continually makes stupid, rookie mistakes, like hitting a soft ball long. But he’s really improved his net game. But until he learns to cut out the stupid errors, he’ll never get past the big guns.

DelPotro kept grabbing his back, so I think he was injured. The doctor behind me kept saying that he was acting like he was dehydrated.

Anyway, I bailed on the finals today because we’re helping our daughter move back to college, but I’m hoping for a good match. If yesterday was any indication, Rafa is going to kick Isner’s butt.

Will some one at CBS sports get rid of Mary Carillo, she says the stupidest things sometimes. She’s be out of the game , what 30 years??

Good match!
