Tennis 2013 Thread

Too bad it wasn’t. Rafa is a beast on clay! He made Federer AND Berdych look like amateurs, which is no easy feat. After thrashing Rog, Rafa didn’t even feel inclined to throw himself on the ground afterward. What a lackluster finale.

I’m so bummed I missed the Ferrer match.

The Williams/Azarenka final was also a snoozefest. I have series tickets to the Cincinnati ATP 1000 event, and always sell my tickets to the finals because this is indicative of finals. You spend an hour in traffic to watch 60 minutes of boring tennis.

So, if Murray pulls out of the French, that means Rafa moves to #4 seed, correct? That’ll mean a Djokovic/Nadal semi because #1 plays #4? Or do I have that incorrect?

P.S. Bravo on the shorter shorts for me! (I’m so shallow!) But now Rafa has to pick his seat AND adjust his waistline each time. I really love me some Rafa, but could he have any more tics?

What are the Vegas odds on Rafa winning the French now? I doubt anyone is taking serious bets on that.

Heck, he may win Wimbledon again if he can play like this.

Those short shorts are the best, PunditLisa!

If Murray drops out, I think Rafa would be the 3rd seed for the FO because by winning Rome he’ll move ahead of Ferrer in the rankings.

Not so much. I was wondering if Fed was feeling ok. Maybe he’s going to call it a day soon. I was expecting a bit more. Sigh..

Losing big-time in a final is still impressive. I rather doubt he’ll quit until he really feels he can not win another major title.

I get that too, about the another major title, but Sunday he had some moments but couldn’t string thems together . I’m a Fed Fan. The sigh was that I’ll miss him when he does retire.

That means that we’ll probably see a Federer v. Nadal semi…and, if all goes well for Djokovic a Djokovic/Nadal final.

That would be delicioso!

He’s risen to become my favorite player of all time, replacing Agassi. I will miss him a ton, but even more of a shock will be they day when Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, and Murray are all gone.

It will be like losing McEnroe, Connors, Borg, and Becker. Or Sampras, Courier, Agassi, etc.

Del Potro, Murray, and Wawrinka have all withdrawn from the FO for various injuries. :frowning:

I’m not surprised about Murray, but that’s too bad about Wawrinka. He’d been playing really well. The draw is on Friday, by the way.

The French Open draws are out. I’m just starting to look through them but the big news is that Djokovic and Nadal are on the same side of the draw, so they could meet in the semifinals. Federer seems to have caught some nice breaks. He’ll play qualifiers in the first two rounds, could get Berankis or Benneteau in the third, and I don’t think he’d play anyone really challenging until the quarterfinals, when he could get Tsonga. Serena could get Kerber in the quarterfinals and Errani or Venus in the semis, but I wouldn’t be too worried about her in the early rounds.

Interesting first round matches: Dolgopolov vs. Tursunov sounds like it could be a long one, Berdych vs. Monfils (and Berdych should win for sure, but it might be fun), Simon vs. Hewitt, Blake vs. Troicki, Wozniacki vs. Robson, Date-Krumm vs. Stosur. And Nadal could play Rosol in the second round.

Yeah, Federer has a chance to get to the final if things go his way.

Blake vs. Troicki?

Is that James Blake? Wow, good for him for still being around. I haven’t seen him in forever.

The one and only. And yes, it’s nice that he’s healthy and even qualified for the main draw. That said, maybe I was being optimistic in saying that match might be interesting: he hasn’t won a match at the French since 2008, with two first-round losses and two DNPs.

Blake is one of my favorites, but I find myself screaming at the television sometimes when he plays. Frustrating ! He could have been a contender back in the day.

Lleyton Hewitt wins the first two sets, but loses the next three in the first round. I wonder when he’ll retire.

Me too. I gave up screaming at him and kind of realized he wasn’t going to reach the top. Still, he’s no Donald Young, who has apparently fizzled out completely(hasn’t he??).
Todd Martin was my favorite player for a number of years. First, he’s from Michigan and so am I. Second, he’s just a really nice guy. However, I remember screaming at him sometimes, especially the 1999 US Open final, which it looked like he was going to win.

James , James,James:(

No big surprises today, except maybe Hewitt taking Simon to five.

I think Blake will retire at the end of this year’s US Open.

Agree

Nadal’s having a wee bit of trouble..no need to panic yet.

Nadal loses the first set, goes to the tiebreak in the second.

But won the tiebreak and is up 3-1 in the 3rd.

Good for Brands, though. He is 58th in the world, which isn’t that low of a ranking. It’d be a shock if he pulls it off.

Brands beat Davydenko a few years ago at Wimbledon…which got me thinking. What happened to Davydenko?? Where did he go?
