Although I would agree that this is a non-story, it does seem fairly clear from her statement that she is implying that Mrs. Bush has never held a job. She compares their “experience and validation” and says that they come from different things. I take this difference to be having held a job. She also says that because she is older and has had _different experiences_, her validation is bigger. Again, I consider the “different experiences” to equate to employment.

I found her statement as posted above to be condescending, stupid and illogical. Still, she didn’t say what you said she did and, as mentioned, what she did say was of absolutely no consequence.

Running a multimillion dollar charitable foundation isn’t a real job? Maybe we need a thread to determine what the fuck a real job is.

[THK](http://www.johnkerry.com/about/teresa_heinz_kerry/)

> [@](#):
>
> After studying at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and the University of Geneva, she moved to the United States and got a job working for the Trusteeship Council of the United Nations. In 1966, she married Senator John Heinz whom she met when they were graduate students and with whom she had three sons. Shortly after celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in 1991, she lost her husband in a plane crash.
>
> Turning down offers to seek election to her husband’s Senate seat to take care of her sons, family and professional responsibilities, she became chairman of The Howard Heinz Endowment and the Heinz Family Philanthropies. Under her leadership, the Heinz foundations are widely known for developing innovative strategies to protect the environment, improve education and the lives of young children, reduce the cost of prescription drugs, promote the arts and help women achieve financial economic security. She established the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement in 1996 to educate women about pensions, savings, and retirement security.

This is from John Kerry’s website but I have no indication that it isn’t accurate. No word on what her responsibilities were with the UN or what if any jobs she held during her marriage to Senator Heinz.

Your characterization of her as a woman who blew her way into a fortune is vulgar and without basis. Asshole.

No problem at all. Please be good enough to refrain from attributing it to Mrs. Heinz-Kerry until more evidence shows that she subscribes to it.

Not that you _have_ attributed it to her. I’m just trying to forestall any more ugliness arising from a foundation of pure speculation.

I’m pretty damned informed on this election and I have no idea what Laura Bush’s biography is. I had no idea she had been either a librarian or a teacher, nor did I particularly care. It may have been publicized, but that doesn’t mean I paid attention to that drek.

As for the “grown up” comment, I think she was referring actually to grown up and discounting a teenage summer job or something. She was probably under the impression, as was I, that Laura Bush married George right after college and became a housewife/country club.

This is just another chicken-shit non-issue you people on the right love to get agitated about. As anybody who actually read the whole quote could tell, Teresa Heinz Kerry pled ignorance about Laura Bush’s occupational history. She wasn’t trying to run down teachers or librarians as you insinuate. Besides, when was the last time Laura Bush cashed a paycheck as either a teacher or librarian?

Well, of course Kerry’s was in a war and was given directive and wasn’t a topic of this thread.

OTOH, Laura (Welch) Bush oddly enough didn’t even get jail time or [even a ticket for her actions.](http://www.thetyee.ca/Life/current/Tell+Laura+I+Love+Her.htm)

> [@](#):
>
> Laura’s idyllic teenage life, however, was shattered two days after her seventeenth birthday, when she ran a stop sign and hit a car driven by her classmate Michael Douglas. The accident occurred just after 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, November 6, 1963.
>
> According to friends, Laura left in the car, upset about something that had happened at home, and picked up her friend Judy Dykes a few blocks away. They drove north out of town and turned east on Farm Road 868, which we called “The Loop,” the road to the good parking spots among the mesquite bushes. At the corner of Big Springs, the highway that continues north to Lubbock, Laura ran the stop sign and slammed into the right front of Michael’s southbound 1962 Corvair.\*\* A police report was filed, but no citation was issued.\*\*
> Laura was being treated for minor injuries at Midland Memorial Hospital when she heard that Michael had died at the scene from a broken neck. She was devastated. At school, students talked of a relationship between Laura and Michael. Stories circulated that Douglas was Laura Welch’s “fiancé” or her “boyfriend,” but whether this was so remained unknown to any but Laura’s closest friends, who never confirmed the stories. Years later, Regan Gammon, Laura’s confidant since they were young girls, would only say that Michael was “a very close friend of Laura’s.”
>
> Douglas was on the track team, but I remembered him as a member of the “Rebel Brigade,” the coolest studs in the school, the boys who drove the jeep with the huge Confederate flag at football games. Douglas was a leader among the leaders, smart, handsome, and kind to everyone.
>
> The tragic accident overwhelmed Laura. She did not return to school until after Christmas. When she did return to complete her senior year, she never mentioned the accident, even among her friends, and no one brought it up in her presence.

So, she ran a stop sign, which tends to be illegal, and then kills someone, which is usually illegal too in the US, and not even a ticket. You’re right. It’s not a topic for this election either. It should be a non-issue. But unfortunately, turd blossoms\* like **Kel Varnsen** keep bringing this mularky up.
