It’s chock full of salt and sugar. High blood pressure? Diabetic coma?
Oh, sure, I suppose some of you would like to see God-fearing, red-blooded Americans smearing mayonaisse on their freedom fries!
Just saw a tape of Ms. Kerry’s comments on McNeill - she didn’t say anything even remotely snide or nasty. She had nothing to apologize for, but did anyway, 'cause she’s civil, fer Chrissake!
The two ladies involved behaved like, well, ladies. Ms. Hughes is a troublemaking harridan.
I’m a fairly well read guy, and I didn’t know that.
Ok, I am willing to admit I may have been wrong. But I still think it is unlikely THK didn’t know about LB’s former career.
Small world! Yes, the whole episode was and is still very depressing. I’m thinking about B and J a lot lately because we’re having our 20th reunion here in a few weeks. B’s not on the list of people attending. Can’t really blame him, I guess.
It’s strange because we had a pretty small class (155) and 3 of the guys have already died. J was the first to die shortly after graduation. Then another guy, Mike, died of cystic fibrosis. I went to school with him for 4 years and never knew he had a life threatening disease.
And then a few months after M died, another of the “golden boys” (smart, good looking, athletic and wealthy) died of brain cancer. I remember R fondly because he was always smiling and singing “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash.
M, R, and J – this Bud’s for you.
Well considering she says she forgot, I think it is likely that she didn’t mean it the way you took it. If she knew, and intentionally slighted the teaching profession, she had to have known that the criticism would come flooding in - why would she have said something knowing she would only have to eat crow and apologize the next day, and knowing that it would have done nothing to improve anyone’s opinion of her?
Don’t teachers and teacher’s unions traditionally support the Dems (heavily)? Why on earth would THK go out of her way to piss off a major supporter of her husband? I think we can chalk this one up to a lapse of memory, don’t you?
The way I see it, Teresa was probably feeling like she was “on a roll” and finding the line about “holding a real job” irresistible, she spazzed out completely on Laura’s background. Bonehead move, but not malice.
I give First Ladies or aspirants thereto (*) a bit more latitude for slip-ups in word and deed than the actual officeholders or candidates. (Ditto for First Daughters. Drink up, gals, I don’t care.)
(*Exceptions of course when they have their own aspirations to policymaking roles or political posts)
Administrator speaketh: I have modified the title of this thread, from “Theresa Heinz Kerry says being a teacher is not a real job” to “Theresa Heinz Kerry implies being a teacher is not a real job ?”
This is the pit, and this is a political year, but a thread title that is a deliberate lie (at worst) or a very nasty misconstruction (at best) is out of line.
If there are other misleading or lying thread titles, please inform a Moderator via the “REPORT THIS POST” button (the little exclamation mark in the upper right hand corner of the post.)
Psst.
Wouldn’t it be “implies”, not infers?
Yep…“Inferring” would be what was done on Kel Varnsen’s end.
Yes, of course, I’m sure I said “implies”, didn’t I say “implies”?
::: Flexes Administrator’s mighty powers to reverse time ::::
Yeah, of course, I said “implies.”
“These are not the wrong words you are looking for.”

I didn’t want to start another thread about Tah-Ray-Za, so here’s my two cents:
If John Kerry is elected President, we won’t be talking about him. We’ll be talking about her. This woman is … eccentric to say the least. I don’t even know why with 10 days to go they are letting this woman speak. She is going to kill the Kerry campaign. Joe and Mary Undecided in all likelyhood do not want a woman like that in the White House. I personally think it is a non-issue who the First Lady is or what they do, but I am not middle America. If I were John I would sit her down, look her in the face and say “Darling. Please don’t talk to the press until after the election. Please?”.
Seriously, does naybody vote hinge on what the wives do?
Lesse, George Bush has recently said that he was against an all-volunteer army (the audience corrected him). And he has said, at least twice, that Kerry’s tax plan won’t work because the rich don’t pay taxes, they hire lawyers to avoid taxes. (This presumably justifies Bush’s plans to cut taxes to the rich on the grounds that they don’t pay them, anyway.)
If I were Laura, or one of GWB’s handlers, I would sit him down, look him in the face and say, “George, please don’t talk to anyone until after the election. Please?”
Hell, I agree with you. With no debates, the Bush camp would be walking away with it. The less he talks the more successful his campaign is. My point it that it’s giving folks like Matt Drudge (been to his site today?) ammo. No one is going to vote for Kerry if they like his wife, there may be a few people who are turned off by her ‘outspokeness’ (?) and will translate that into a non-vote or a Bush vote.
