Guinastasia, I think plenty of people called Arnold a jerk over his “girlie men” comment, and I believe he has apologized for the sexist remarks he made years ago. If there are more recent ones I’m not aware of them.
However, so far as I know he hasn’t called political opponents “idiots,” or “scumbags,” or told any reporters to “shove it.” Nor is he a free-floating political gadfly. He gets down in the trenches and fights the difficult day-to-day battles necessary to get things done, and he gets them done successfully. He has shown by virtue of a lot of hard work and by the amazing successes he’s acheived that he is someone worthy of respect and to be taken seriously.
Therefore I think perhaps a certain double-standard comes into effect, but I don’t think it’s sexist in nature. I think THK just isn’t perceived as having earned the standing to be behaving the way she does, whereas Arnold has.
