A President once every six years? It’s bad enough enduring a president you dislike for four years. You want to up the ante, and make the presidential election even more stressful?

Moreover, this scheme would mean that every president would be secure in the knowledge that he would never face the voters again. Political repercussions against sitting presidents would cease to exist.

Now if you want to term-limit Senators to like 5 terms (30 years) or Reps to 10 terms (20 years) maybe I’ll listen.

Also I’d strongly argue against longer terms. I think routine elections are critically important for gauging the mood of the public.

I think this is the best middling solution. You want legislators to be in office long enough to gain experience and expertise, but not long enough that it becomes a 40-year career.

Let them face voters time and time again, every few years, to hold them accountable, and also term-limit them to something like 20 years max, while still letting them accumulate considerable experience.

Well, if he presides too badly, he might lose his friendly Congressional majority in midterms (if he had one to begin with) and be unable to get anything done. So he still needs to behave.
