Just as crappy this week as last. Right now, Science is down at the police station showing pointing to a dolly to show the officers where this show touched it inappropriately. Cripes.

Sat through this week’s episode because my wife still seems to be holding out hope that it could be good. Ehh. I kept waiting for Tippi Hedron to show up in this one. 😉

So I was wondering how long it would be until the show had an episode without any actual episodes-- didn’t expect it to be this soon though. But that’s the least of the show’s problems.

I liked how the show completely skips what should be the most interesting scenes, such as when the father went out and actually had to hunt down a killer bird by himself, or all but a few seconds of when he and the Avatar-dude rolled out to disperse the pheromones. Speaking of which, those pheromones must have been insanely powerful to work on "millions’ of birds instantly.

Also, the “joke” in the final couple minutes with the scientist dude ‘subtly’ naming the creature seemed like it was ripped right out of a cheesy 90s sitcom, minus the laughtrack.

What the hell? We didn’t know there might be flying dinosaurs! And let’s just shag right here in front of the kids. They might learn something.
Nice to see Eddie Van Halen still lives even 150 yrs in the future. I mean, 85 million yrs in the past. I mean… ah, screw it.

I kept imagining:
“What do we do about these flying dinos?”
“That depends. Are they delicious?”

Didn’t watch but curious about the lame joke. What was it? Mulva-saur? Gipple-dactyl?

ETA: Oh!!! Doloresaur!

I particularly liked that they started releasing the pheromones while still in the middle of the camp.

And clearly, none of those pesky airborne particles adhered to the vehicle or its occupants -

Apparently, those pterosaurs migrated across time as well as space: long-tailed pterosaurs were extinct by the end of the Jurassic.

Anyway, regarding the show itself, last night’s episode did resolve some of the issues brought up in the pilot.

Food: In the market, we see chickens hanging up, as well as a lot of veggies, and insect dishes. Additionally a couple of the guards were complaining about the “orange colored” meat the cook was serving. So either they are synthing larger protein or occasionally taking a dino to feed the colony. We do see a very advanced chemical synthesizer in operation at the science lab, so meat production may be a non issue entirely.

Apparently Terra nova is also not the only station in existence already. There are some outposts in addition to wherever the sixers are living. We also get confirmation that the protocalls do indeed call for the settlers to be as light on the environment as possible.

weapons: The leader makes it clear that he is either expecting or building more efficient weaponry to deal with the wildlife. The science officer seems at odds with him about this and would prefer more passive solutions. He got shut down, so it seems some lethal weaponry is going to show up sooner or later.

Bad!science Daughter continued her reign of misinformation with her “moss grows on the north side of trees”. Yeah, in a rainforest, the moss is _only_ growing on the north side of the trees.

Had a moment of :dubious: with the Science Tool telling everyone that the pterosaurs were reptiles… well, okay. But when they invented Axe Body Spray to save the day I knew this show is in Star Trek technobabbleland. Cripes.

I didn’t hate it as much as the pilot. I still hate Dad and Mom, though - they shouldn’t be there, and I don’t see myself getting to like them. I think the spin the pilot was supposed to put on them was that they were heroes for daring to have more kids than they were allowed, but that just told me that they’re exactly the kind of people who _caused_ the problems that they managed to escape. Jerks.

Sure - but after they had teh kid, and were found out - it wasn’t like the rules

a.) eliminated the kid -
b.) eliminated a parent to make room for the kid

so, other than a suggestion, I’m not real sure that the rule made any sense other than to say “2149 sucks”.

“That way, ma’am.”

“How do you know, oh precocious-and-hot teen girl who’s destined to be knocked up by a soldier?”

“By the moss on that tree over there, ma’am.”

I’m going to give it one more episode to get it’s shit together and then I’m checking out.

I somehow doubt we’ll be doing manual synthesis in the distant future, but I guess it makes good TV.

Anyone think that New Science Guy is the Sixer mole? Seems odd that they introduced him just when Commander Muscles talked about there being a mole, and he was conveniently out in the jungle during the latest attack.

I was so hoping the pterosaurs would kill and eat Zoe.

Which brings a certain question to the forefront-- why didn’t they eat the guys they killed out in the jungle? I’m sure they’re carnivores.

No, it was the fact that the scientist (Wallace) had the hubris to name the species after himself.

Not only that, but he gave it a stupid name: _Malcolmus pterosauria_. At least it won’t be official until/unless he publishes it 😛
