I don’t think it was a big deal anyway. So he signed a ball? It wasn’t anything near as bad as the typical taunting thing that he and others do. Also, as far as I can tell, he did it so he could give the ball to a friend, not to taunt the other team. Well, not specifically to taunt, that is. ---

Neither. I think what he did last night was hilarious; almost as funny as when he ran out tho the star at midfield in Dallas after scoring. (for those who didn’t watch MNF last night - Terrell Owens scored a touchdown, beating his cover man, Shawn Springs. He then pulled a pen out of his sock, autographed the football, then gave it to someone sitting in the section Springs gave tickets to) Granted, Owens is a head case. But he’s not a thug (he’s deeply religious), and these days, that’s fairly unusual in pro sports. Anyway, I’ll bet the NFL will have something to say about his actions this week. He’ll be coughing up some cash… ---

I supose you thought the NY Little Leaguer pimpwalking around the bases during the Little League World Series this year was hilarious too, right? Thanks to the hamster eating my original post, which was pretty much what you posted. But your facts are a bit remiss. He handed the ball to his business agent, not a friend. And the NFL took 12 hours to send him a letter which basically said, _that was your one chance, next time it or something like it happens get your checkbook ready and have them warm up a seat on the bench for you._ What astonishes me is that apparently the 49ers weren’t planning on doing anything. What Owens did was taunting, pure and simple. It was vile. It was a punk thing to do. Why not just whip his dick out and wave at the Seahawks bench? Oh, wait, I’m sure that will be happening within the next year or so. Paul Brown was right: _When you get to the end zone, act like you’ve been there before._ Owens disrespected the game, plain and simple. What he did was worse then the NFL not allowing Payton Manning to wear black hightops as a way of honoring Johnny U. Punk. He should be fined, suspended and :smack:, not neccessarily in that order. ---

Owens is a major headcase, his ego needs its own neighborhood, he bitches and moans too much, and is just a tad (or several tads) too selfish. 3 things though: 1. He is the best WR in the league. Period. 2. He is _passionate_ about the game. He gives it his all when he’s on the field. A lot more than can be said about, oh, Moss, or any number of other players. 3. Like it or not, last night’s action was ballsy and funny as hell. Step outside of your self-righteousness for a minute. Yes, it was taunting (which I dislike), and yes, the pen in the sock is an injury hazard (good point there), etc., but it was so unbelievably, unimaginably arrogant that it will be one of those things that will be remembered for a long time, and by some of us chuckled over. What won’t be funny is the next time it’s done, regardless by whom. ---

On a scale of 1 - 10, the pen thing was maybe a 2 or 3. The Dallas thing was probably an 8. In Dallas, I wished he got clobbered and injured after that ridiculous display. The only reason anyone would even know about the pen thing is _surprise_ the constant replaying of a close up by the media. At the game itself, I doubt many people knew he did anything other than give the ball to someone. He grabbed the pen, quickly signed it and gave it to the guy. No big display, no prancing around, none of that junk. We can agree to disagree on this one. I hate, hate, hate taunting, I think it demeans the game and want to scream when some joker high-steps it into the end zone because the defender tripped or something. This thing is very low on my list of things to get upset about. The only thing the NFL will do is give him the standard “giving away a ball” fine. ---

Manning plays for a team in Indianapolis, Unitas was the greatest QB the game has ever known, he played mst of his career for the Baltimore Colts with one year in San Diego.
