Okay, if we’re in a nitpicky thread, I just have to correct this (sorry). If George III _had_ realized it would lead to a black man being President, he would have gone mad.

I had a teacher write “please try and write more neater” on one of my papers. They aren’t all perfect grammar guys.

I did this all the time in Latin class. After the test, I’d write big pictures, trying to use as much vocab as possible. There were tanks blowing up monsters and everything. And beneath each, I’d write a caption like “Pueri ad bella arma ferant” or whatever. Bonus points every time.

Religious Education class as taught by your typical old fashioned school chaplain and the homework? Draw what you think God looks like. Smart arse atheist that I was I merely wrote the date at the top of the page and the title. Thing is he refused to accept it and said I had to draw something! So I drew a triangle which he accepted and gave me a C.

I chose not to do RE as an elective for GCSE.

teachers would always give me one of those “who are you” questionaires at the start of the year. one of the questions would inevitably be “what annoys you”. my answer was always “nosy teachers who ask too many questions”.

My senior english class teacher made us do daily journals too. One day I did the same thing you did and meandered off about how I doubt he even read them and that I could totally just go off on some tangent about unicorn dragons attacking Papa Smurf, I wrote half of the page about unicorn dragons attacking the smurfs, and he would still give me points.

He still gave me the points but at the bottom of the page he wrote, “Of course I read these…sometimes. :)”

This reminds me of the joke about the young Catholic school student huddled over her desk drawing furiously. The teacher asks, “What are you drawing?” The girl answers, “God.”
The teacher protests, “But no one knows what God looks like.”
“They will in just a minute!”

I think I’ve told this on the board before, but in grade 11 I had to participate in a math contest. One of the questions was something to the effect of, “Twelve married couples [this was before 2003] are seated around a formal dinner table, alternating between men and women around the table. What are the odds that a given man is seated next to his wife?”

I wrote, “Zero. One does not seat a man next to his wife at a formal dinner party.”

[hijack]
Nope. Still bad theology. The “old bearded man in the sky” idea was lifted straight from Zeus.

Mind you, I’m not sure what the Christian rules about depicting God are. In Judaism, though, trying to draw God is blasphemous and absurd. I think that by really traditional rabbis, even the cloud with the hand sticking out is pushing it.

You’re completely right. But I wonder what the teacher thought.

I don’t think we have any rules about depicting God, but we generally don’t cause nobody wants to guess what He looks like. Personally, I think Tatsuya Ishida, the person that draws [Sinfest](http://www.sinfest.net/) has the right idea. He does the traditional hand in the cloud thing, but he really draws God with a wicked sense of humor. I contend he had to have a sense of humor if He made me. 😃

Our teacher/magistra did the same thing. She called it “Latin Alive!” but it went downhill after we discovered things like watches, motion picture copyright, and money.

My three favorites. The first is undoubtedly made up just for humor, the second and third are what I wish I had been cool enough to write back in high school and college. Number 2 and 3 are NSFW due to language.
