When you’re posting a reply, up at the top where it says “THE STRAIGHT DOPE”, there’s some information below that, including

The SDMB has over 17,000 registered users. Imagine how slow the site would be if everyone could post any picture they pleased. Besides, we try to keep this a PG-13 board and it would be difficult to police what pics are posted.

Editor is off so some unscrupulous member involved in a flame war can’t go back and change something inflammatory into something innocuous therefore looking like the victim.
