# Test thread - iOS 8.1.2 smilies in Safari editor

Recently upgraded iphone sw to 8.1.2. There’s now a smilie button (may have been there earlier - I’m not very observant). There’s a lot of 'em there - they show up on Preview, do they post? Let’s see.

Emoji just don’t work on Windows 7 Chrome for me. There are a couple of browser extensions that enable them, but they wreak havoc when you quote posts with emoji in them.

Hmm. First line posted, second didn’t. In the OP, they were visible until I edited, then got replaced by the “No Character” box, or whatever it’s called. Did you do something between the first and second lines? 🪲

Wow, weird. I am looking at this thread simultaneously on my iPhone and my work computer. Some emojis show up on one, but not both. Some get boxed on the computer, some get boxed on the iPhone. And, just for grins…🐽🐥🐔🎓🎏🗼🔡😍

Oddly, **kayaker** ’s rather large emoji show up fine in his post, but show up boxed when **JimBuff314** put them in a quote box.

As viewed from Firefox on a Mac.

And when I view them from my Windows desktop pc, they show up large, but every single emoji in the thread is in black and white. When I view **kayaker** ’s post from iphone, they are in color but the re-sizing did not take effect. I guess what **Jragon** commented on in post 5 is accurate, although I don’t know that I’d classify it as “wreaking havoc.”

Nah, the Chrome extension basically does find+replace on the text of a webpage, but doesn’t discriminate text boxes. So all the emoji in the text box get replaced with HTML img tags which means you can’t quote anyone using emoji.

Missed this thread before. I think this is probably the same problem I’ve run into before. Certain special characters get mangled if you use preview. What I wound up doing was hitting preview and then hitting the back button before posting.

Or, if you want to be safe, use the board approved 🙂 ☹ 😛 :o etc.

Interesting. Most of these displayed properly on my iPad, but none of them work on my desktop Mac using Safari or Firefox.
