Instead of replying to the post and then hitting the quote button in the reply box, I had selected the Batman picture with the mouse and clicked the little quote popup. Doing it that way starts the image line off with an exclamation mark, which it occurs to me is some kind of “this is an embedded image” flag. Doing it now without selecting the Batman picture first appears to work just fine, and it does not start with an exclamation mark. (And I had to do it that way just now because I’m on my phone; no mouse.) ---
