Write your url like this and it should work:  
[**url][http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=695907#post695907](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=695907#post695907)[**/url].

That will look like this:  
[http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=695907#post695907](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=695907#post695907).

Or like this:

to get this:  
[This post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?postid=695907#post695907).

I think something changed lately. The other way used to work.
