Well Bush may have become governor but he’s no Texan.

Sorry, new doper here. I **should** have said "Texans are bent on the idea that the can… fly their flag as high as the national flag…

:smack:

Come on. Like dudes up in Montana would want to make sure that their state flag is at equal mast to the Stars And Stripes. Uh… do they even have a state flag? :dubious:

The flag thing for Tejas is just another “Our dick is bigger than yours, Yankee bastard,” thing.

I don’t get “Bless your heart” as an insult. My mom and grandmother used the phrase in a sympathetic way. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it used as mocking condescencion, unless my mom was whoosing me.

They have this guy on television in the Dallas area that says that “when I moved to Texas I didn’t know what my wife meant by bless your heart, but now I know that it means, ‘You dumb mother@&\*.’”

That isn’t exactly what he says and I don’t know what he is really selling. He has a commercial on the radio that is similar.

Also, when someone is referred to as _special_, it generally means he or she is a dumbass. At least in this part of Texas.

Bite me, **Homebrew**.

You want to take that line, amigo, then you need to realize that you just set yourself up as the living, breathing epitomy of the stereotype liberal asshole - someone who will condemn another at the drop of a hat without a consideration as to whether the other is correct or not. And lie about it while doing it.

I was born and razed (heh, heh) in West by Gawd Virginia, and Maryland crabcakes (hell, any Eastern Seaboard crabs) are waaaay superior to the lame Northwest excuses for crabs. Sheeit, these ‘uns don’ evun make ma bawls ieeutch! Oh. Never mind. 😃

You forgot Massachusetts. Well, Boston, actually, 'cause we’re the only city _in_ Massachusetts, not that you **peons** would know that!! I bet your great-great-great-great grandparents didn’t even come over on the Mayflower or anything. I bet they had some sort weird last name like “Skimpenheimer” and they landed ass-backwards on a leaky raft that smelled like beer and sausage, ha-ha.

Now if you excuse me, I have to finish my clam chowder and go start a rumble at the Bruins game.

Hmmm…born and reared in Texas and the only time I’ve seen anyone like the _stereotype_ in the OP is when I was watching fiction on TV or a movie screen. Same with anyone bragging about the size of Texas and any and everything in it. Well, except in jokes. _Ancient_ jokes. That, come to think of it, I mostly hear in movies and TV shows.

Of course, I’ve seen some people who exhibit a few of those traits to some degree or another - in Mississippi…Iowa…Colorado…Mexico…

Except for the one poster upthread, the only time I had ever heard that the Texas flag could supposedly be flown equal (or above) the US flag was on snopes.

Delaware - Delaware! - [has more executions per capita](http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/article.php?scid=8&did=477) than Texas.

Texas is a relatively low 33rd in [gun ownership](http://www.pubpol.duke.edu/people/faculty/cook/SAN01-25.pdf) prevalence (to address another stereotype that has been alluded to in this and the other thread).

The whole state (and all its residents) is to be smeared and ridiculed because a few people (who may or may not even be residents) are perceived to take an anti-littering slogan and hijack it for their own agendas? Jeez.

I remember I left this board for a long time because some asshole saw a news report about Dallas’s plan to treat its homeless people and jumped all over it with a hatefullness that I have yet to see surpassed. Despite the fact that I felt vindicated to point out it was Dallas, OREGON - his own precious state - I still felt so sickened I couldn’t even come back, because this attitude towards the south in general and Texas in particular on this board that claims to want to stamp out ignorance is astounding.

If we’re nothing but 20 million ignorant hicks and yahoos, then why do so many of our colleges end up on USNews’s top 100? And why do we have so many Nobel Laureates teaching at those schools? Why do some of the top technology companies make their homes here? Why do we have some of the nation’s best hospitals?

Fuck you all. Hard.

Oh, and **Lissa**? I believe you’ve got to be the most ignorant of all, for not “getting” **Aesiron** ’s remarkably brilliant post.

> I’m skeptical that all the Texans living abroad in the midwest and north-east with this bumper sticker are advocating an anti-littering message. And what about the ones that include little pictures of firearms with the slogan? Is that part of the anti-littering campaign too? I understand that the slogan was originally adopted for that purpose, but I don’t believe for a minute that that’s why it’s being displayed so much by individual Texans around the country.

Be skeptical all you want, it’s true however. And some have little pictures of cowboy wear, guns? So what. I’ve lived in NM and CA and have seen guns associated with their past in advertising. Big deal. This is really reaching.

Well this could sure open a big can of worms. Now we are required to vote to keep other’s vote from counting just to make you happy? There are a lot of people that just made my shit for letting Bush back in.

Oh, and on that subject, being born, raised and currently living here I don’t believe most Texans think Bush is/was a good president.
