Well, the part you quoted had this in it: “freeing the slaves wasn’t the purpose of the War”. I would think most people would assume I was talking about the North.

And there is this: so you’re not outraged. That’s fine. But why does your response have to hold true for all here?
[/QUOTE]

It doesn’t. And I even said so. But I’m free to chime in with my opinion, no?

There is actually a movement, called [Physics First](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics_First), to do just that. I am not a proponent myself, but it has its supporters.

> Any way to work out a trade with Mexico? Say, we give them Texas and they give us so many cases of tequila each year?

When they find out what a raw deal they got… well, piss doesn’t go well with tequila.

I was absolutely, viscerally offended by this. I would have walked out right then and there (were I in that room for some reason!).

I’m an atheist, BTW.

> That cite says nothing. It really doesn’t matter what the textbooks say, because we discuss, critique and modify the material every day in the classroom. Hell, I really like the senior Econ. textbook we use, but I still point out its weaknesses to the kids when we get to them. I don’t like the Govt. book, so I don’t base my lessons on it. The kids read it, do questions from it, but their main information is from my lectures and handouts. The book could be advocating Total World Fascism for all I care. By the time we get through deconstructing it, the kids would not only know all World Fascism’s flaws, but how to combat it and why they should care.

Don’t underestimate the power of the school board to have teachers fired if they don’t follow the text message.

Especially if said teachers don’t have a union.
