Everything I’ve read says that Selena was born in Lake Jackson, just outside Houston, and didn’t have much connection to her Mexican heritage until her teens. She spoke very little Spanish, for instance, until her father saw the Spanish-speaking Tejano market as a potential gold mine, and started pushing her in that direction. ---

I was going to include David Allan Coe, but like Labdad said he is from Ohio originally. He has lived in a lot of weird places including a hearse in front of the Grand Ole Opry and a cave somewhere in Tennessee. He didn’t pay his taxes for a few years and lost his house, which I think was in Florida. Dan’s Bar is excellent, I haven’t been there in some time though. I am not even sure if it is still there. That is the bad thing about Denton all the bars and clubs change names every couple of years. ---

He may have been born near Linden, but Texarkana claims him. According to the [_Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation_](http://www.scottjoplin.org/biog.htm), much of his childhood was spent in Texarkana.
