My child was studying paintings and muriels came up. She asked to see one and the Scott Joplin muriel in Texarkana was the first one I thought of…

I think there’s a strong argument for Texas leading the music influences…with selections like these (some already mentioned)

zz top
pantera
bob wills (father of western swing)
light crust doughboys
Blind lemon jefferson
T bone walker (father of rock and roll)
Roy Orbison
Buddy Holly
george straight
willie nelson
gene autry
asleep at the wheel
Erykah badu
clint black
Brave combo (whom I know personally)
Clarence gatemouth brown
Ian moore
Doyle Bramhall
SRV
Van Cliburn
Don Henly
Albert Collins
Christopher Cross
Jimmy Dean
dixie Chicks
MIckey gilly
Johnny Horton
Wayon Jennings
Flaco Jimenez
Eric Johnson
George Jones
Kris Kristofferson
Lyle Lovette
Delbert McClinton
Meat Loaf
Michael nesmith
Ray Price
Charlie PRide
Kenny Rogers
Selena
LeAnn Rimes
Boz Scaggs
Steven Stills
Texas Tornados
Bj Thomas
Jimmy Vaughn
Lucinda Williams
Lee Ann Womack
Toadies (played in a band with the drummer)
Rev Horton heat
Joe Ely
lloyd maines
Jerry Jeff Walker
Don Williams
Steve Earle
One O’clock Jazz Band
Doc Severnson
Old 97’s (dallas)

I’d put Texas up against any other state out there.

I’m glad to see somebody remembered Mickey Gilley. I was gonna mention him awhile back but had to run. I’d hate to see the old “Urban Cowboy” forgotten. Been to his old club in Pasadena several times back in the day…before it burned down, anyway.
