**Do guidance counselors count? **
I was a high school dropout. Found my way back to school, then community college. I thought if I was lucky I’d eventually get a Bachelors from a state school.
At the end of a semester, I was waiting for my counselor late on the Friday of a holiday weekend. Bill (a different counselor) was walking out with his hat and coat. He saw me, saw I was still waiting, paused (I still remember seeing him do the time-calculus in his head), and asked if he could help me out instead or if I needed something in particular.
At the time I thought I just needed my next semester’s courses approved. But he didn’t just let it go with a few questions. He talked to me for almost an hour about what I was doing there, where I was going, etc.
Long story short: I am a high school dropout with a bachelors from Columbia University and a JD from Georgetown.
Thanks, Bill.
