It seems to me that there are two types of reality TV shows; those that celebrate people failing, and those that celebrate people succeeding. That’s why _Fear Factor_ never bothered me. For all the bizarre challenges and disgusting foods they had, the host was always encouraging people to get over their fears and do things they didn’t think they could.
_Wipeout_ is okay. I’d like it a whole lot better if they spent more time showing the people who were good at it, and less time showing people falling in the mud.

It’s OK but Most Extreme Elimination Challenge is better. I also found the short lived Hole in the Wall kind of amusing, in a similar vein.

As I recall from earlier episodes, the events just take too fucking long. I don’t wanna watch some fatass exhaustedly dragging himself that last few yards when he’s already six minutes behind. Get the humiliations over quickly, time’s wasting!

It does work much better as an hour long show. Last night’s episode dragged…especially the “bonus” round where no one got eliminated.

I keep thinking that Jill, the commentator/host on the ground, gets the short end of the stick. She’s far more amusing than the two Johns, and seems to do more actual work… but with less recognition. She’s also pretty darn cute.

I think they are waiting until after the NBA Finals, the 22nd is the official first episode of the season, this one was a “preview”.

It seems pretty clear that the two Johns have most or all of their material written for them well after the stunts themselves have been filmed, and just record it all in the studio. Jill is actually present at the Wipeout course and has to think on her feet. And she’s cute.

I love me some Wipeout and I am not ashamed to admit it. That show has more laughs per dollar spent on production than anything in TV history.

I couldn’t really get into MXC thanks to the goofy dubbing, but Ninja Warrior was pretty good. Early rounds are all about the schlubs failing miserably (often the same ones season after season) then round two and on are all about getting down to business with the nail biting tension. And it’s unforgiving. If no one wins, no one wins, oh well, try again next season.
