Some more info today - Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, Stockwell Day, appears to have been trying to persuade his counter-part, Michael Chertoff, to take Mr. Arar off the US watch list. The American authorities take the position that they have independent information that warrants keeping Mr. Arar on the list. They’ve shared that info with their Canadian counterparts, who don’t think there’s anything new in it. Minister Day has written four letters to Secretary Chertoff, but without any effect.
From your link, with bolding added by me:
That’s over the top.
Jesus Christ.
We’re going to do it, aren’t we? We’re going to wind up having a “stand off” with Canada. Crap.
What’s wrong with you Canadians? Why can’t you just do as you’re told? :dubious:
Wait. You don’t have any oil reserves up there, do you?
Peace,

Yup, we’re just expanding the U.S. Co-prosperity Sphere a few miles. Lebesnraum, and all that.
Relax, it’s just a last ditch effort by Bush & co. to ram something else stupid down the hemisphere’s throat.
Look how long it took the buggers to require passports for all travellers. And even so, immigration is still letting people pass without one.
Nope, no oil in Canada, nopey nope nope nope.
whistles nonchalantly
So the US Government requires my passport, eh? Then why in the hell do they want my green card, and NOT my passport, when I return from Mexico next week? Fuckers. I paid through the nose and waited three months to get it, too.
