In a world that is seeing such stresses and warfare, today I give thanks that my family and I live in Canada. I see my son growing up and don’t worry that he will be kidnapped or blown up. I see my colleagues at the bar working to preserve the rule of law. I don’t worry that our house will be struck by missiles. Our food supply is safe. Our elections are regular and not contested. As a nation, we have our issues and problems, but by and large we live in peace, with order and good government. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. ---

As a fellow Canadian, hear hear. I sometimes speculate that Canadian boomers may be the most fortunate animals to have ever walked the earth. We are indeed very fortunate. ---

Canada is a flawed but wonderful country. I share your thanks for Canada’s great beauty, reasonable people, sensible democracy and down-to-earth humour. May we work hard to improve Canada, overcome obstacles together and make it yet better, stay focused amid a thousand distractions, not lose sight of our common values and shared philosophy, and take pride in how far we have come, while celebrating those who made the peace and freedoms we enjoy possible. If that is a geographical reference to the US, at least we don’t live in an apartment above a bowling alley but below another bowling alley. ---

I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments already expressed. I’ll add that I am thankful that I don’t need to worry when my teenage sons walk home in the dark, or when my wife travels alone by bus across the city to go to work. I’m thankful that the police in my community are unquestionably the good guys and if anyone in my family gets sick, they will get the treatment they need without our going into dept. A day doesn’t go by that I don’t appreciate how lucky I am to live in Canada. Happy thanksgiving everyone. ---

It’s a pretty weak analogy. Canada is the second largest country in the world; not much like an apartment. Except for the fact it is always too hot or too cold, we can’t control the climate, and we generally complain that all the best porridge goes to other provinces.
