That Dutch Guy Who Wants To Revives Polaroid Film?

Yeah, I have a Crown Graphic and the 545 back. I wanna shoot 4x5, I wanna shoot handheld, and I want to see the result right away. I miss Type 55, that’s for sure.

I’m sure that was exactly Dr. Lands intention.

I read a biography of Edwin Land, and the invention of instant photography really was an astonishing technical achievement. It required creating a protective layer that could be transparent to allow the image layer to be exposed to light, opaque while the film was developing then transparent again when finished.

Oddly enough - Polaroid makes such a device. It also connects to your cell phone via Bluetooth, so you can print cell phone pictures, too.

[Polaroid already makes a standalone printer and a camera that print digital photos using an inkless printing system called ZiNK. ZiNK was developed at Polaroid then spun out into a separate company who license the technology back to Polaroid and a few other companies.

It’s called a Polaroid Pogo. I love mine.

It’s like a regular small digital camera. You can save images on your PC like a digital camera. After you take your photos, you select the one(s) you like, hit “print” and the print comes out the side of the camera. Unlike the old Polaroid film, it’s dry ink. The prints are small, though, about 2" x 4" with a peel-off backing so you can stick them on something else if you wish.

The Zink paper is fairly cheap, too: 10 photos to a pack, and 8 packs go for about $20.
