That famous person is related to WHO?

Oooh, I didn’t know that!

We need to create an SDMB “posts of fame” so that can go in it!

Yep.

And she has a (non-famous) brother. I mention this because it’s hard to believe that not only was Joel Grey married to a woman but he apparently had sex with her at least twice.

Anne Baxter (of The 10 Commandments fame) was the granddaughter of Frank Lloyd Wright, who was still alive when she was in her 1950s heyday.

Henry Winkler and Richard Belzer are cousins, though accounts vary as to whether it’s first cousins or more distant. Winkler’s parents were Jews who managed to flee Germany for the U.S. shortly before WW2 and they stayed at first with Belzer’s parents (one or the other of whom was a blood relative) who were already citizens.

Christopher Lloyd is the uncle of Sam Lloyd from Scrubs.

Did you know that red-headed waitress Arlene is married to Ben from Lost? Photo

Speaking of Christopher and Sam Lloyd, they are from an insanely wealthy family, as in this houseand the 300 acres it sits on in New Canaan, CT, is where he grew up. Lloyd’s maternal grandfather, Francis Lapham, founded Texaco. (No idea if he inherited any of the money: richer families have certainly lost it all.)
It’s well known that Anderson Cooper is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt by her last husband Wyatt Cooper (a semi-successful writer whose book sells for absurd amounts) and that his older brother died- either accidentally or suicide- by falling from their mother’s balcony. I’ve never read anything about his half-brothers though, the sons of Vanderbilt’s marriage to Leopold Stokowski. (They were born when Stokowski was almost 70 but he lived long enough to see them grown.) Does anybody know if either of them are locally famous in NY or whatever?

Incidentally, while the name Vanderbilt conjures images of immense wealth- and at one time for certain branches of the family it was valid- Gloria was never as filthy rich as the name implied. Her father left her a $2.5 million trust fund in the 1920s- a ton of money to be sure at the time- but it was greatly reduced by the Depression and poor management. Most of her money came basically from licensing her name- she had relatively little to do with the actual design of the jeans and cologne and other things that bore the Vanderbilt brand- and she suffered major financial reversals in the past couple of decades that at least for a while left her dependant on Anderson.

I stand corrected. As I get older, I find that certain facts gets confused together.

Anyway, UK Dopers probably know this but Helena Bonham Carter is the great-granddaughter of former British P.M. H.H. Asquith.

:smack:

I knew that. Lack of sleep can be a bitch, no?

Lisa Bloom : Open Court host Lisa Bloom is the daughter of famed attorney Gloria Allred.

To clarify: Todd and Bebe Buell lived together in his home near Woodstock. Bebe cheated on him with Tyler, and came home pregnant and Todd accepted the child as his own, paying for her support after Todd and Bebe broke up. Liv was mostly raised by Bebe’s parents and other relatives. When Liv was 11 (some claim 9, but 11 is more frequently clited), Bebe took her to an Aerosmith concert where she met Mia, and Bebe told Liv that this other rock star was her biological father.

This is something I find annoying, as I am an uncle to an adopted niece and two adopted nephews, and believe that biology is vastly over-rated. Stephen Tyler might be Liv’s father, but Todd Rundgren has always been there as her dad.

Sean Astin, of LOTR fame, is the biological son of Patty Duke and the adopted son of John Astin, of The Addams Family fame.

Speaking of Harry Potter/Doctor Who connections, Alfie Enoch (Dean Thomas, of Gryffindor) is the son of William Russell (Ian Chesterton, of the First Doctor’s era).

Bonnie Bedelia, (Bruce Willis’ wife in Die Hard), is the aunt of Macaulay Culkin.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, are second cousins.

Brian Forster (the second Chris Partridge) is also a great-great-great grandson of Charles Dickens. He’s also the step-grandson of Alan Napier (Alfred the Butler in the ‘Batman’ TV series). Napier, meanwhile, was a cousin of British PM Neville Chamberlain.

Actor Woody Harrellson is the son of notorious Texas hitman (and self-proclaimed JFK assassin, from the infamous grassy knoll) Charles Harrelson.

Ian Fleming and Christopher Lee were step-cousins.

Yaphet Kotto is the great-grandson of King Alexander Bell of Cameroon. In his autobiography he says as an adult he learned his father was Crown Prince of Cameroon. He’s claimed descent from Queen Victoria as well, but apparently Buckingham Palace disputes this.

I’m sure plenty of people shake their heads in disbelief over Dennis and Randy Quaid being brothers.

Victoria Morrow is not JJL’s sister. JJL’s mother is screenwriter Barbara Turner. FWIW, I know JJL.

Darn, I have been meaning to post that but never got around to it. Wiki says she is related (by marriage) to James Bond creator Ian Fleming and also Florence Nightengale.
Helena’s grandmother Violet Asquith was an interesting woman in her own right and also probably Winston Churchill’s closest femal friend. It is to her diaires that we owe capturing one of Winston’s most revealing self appraisals “We are all worms. But I do think that I am a glow worm”.

Has anyone mentioned that Werner Klemperer (Colonel Klink) was the son of well known classical conductor Otto Klemperer?

Super Dave’s and Albert Einstein’s father was known as Parkyakarkus (and variations). Also known as Harry Parke, or his actual name Harry Einstein. He can be seen this Friday (7/22/2011) at 3:15PM EDT on TCM in the movie *The Life of the Party *(1937).

One of my celebri-crushes is Rashida Jones from Parks And Recreation. Her mom is Peggy Lipton from *The Mod Squad *and *Twin Peaks *and her father is musician/producer Quincy Jones.

He famously died on stage during a Friars Club roast.
