Tomorrow I fly down for a few days in my college town to meet with a couple of my readers and file my dissertation. Oh, such a very long process. Of course the last few months of drudgery and this and that paperwork and walking in graduation 3 months before filing has put me in such an endless liminal zone that it feels very anticlimactic. But I bet on Thursday when I walk into the Grad Div office and drop that 325 pages of very expensive acid-free 25 lb cotton paper on their desk that I will feel very very light and gazelle-like for a few minutes. Perhaps I will have a beer or six? Yay me! W00t. ---

Make sure you call the guys at [Car Talk](http://www.cartalk.com), they always get a kick out of Art History majors (the whole “You want fries with that?” mentioned above), and a doctorate will absolutely kill them. Congratulations on the hard work! ---

Hi-- been on planes all day. Nah, I don’t have to have a defense-- I just need my 3 readers to be happy enough to sign a piece of paper. It was northern Renaissance, 15th-c stuff (don’t want to go too much into it, as I’m on the market and don’t want potential employers with deep-internet-search-fu to know I’ve had sexy dreams about a cocker spaniel and used to play Dungeons and Dragons). My husband always wanted me to call the Car Talk guys because of the art history thing, AND we have (or had until very recently-- so sad kaboom smoke and flames) a Volvo. I will be adjunct-waiting-tables in BC. Could be worse. ---
