Is it true that elements aligned vertically on the periodic table share traits? If so, what type of characteristics do they have in common?

Congrats! But, unless you had really nasty quals, having a PhD means you know more than anyone in the world about a tiny, tiny area. An area you may never visit again.

I’m excited, in that I’m reviewing a book with a chapter actually related to my PhD subject from 27 years ago. That doesn’t happen often!

I finally, finally have someone I can ask about…Benzene?

Why was I excited, again?

I was the kind in 1989 who smelled the clear liquid in the beaker. HCl smells wonderful, I think. Very aromatic\*!!
