I hate the phrase “That’s how we roll”. My boss uses it all the time to when she wants to kiss off a company policy. As in, “That may be policy, but we do things different around here. That’s how we roll.” Which really means “It’s too much of a hassle for me, and I’d rather not be bothered.” Yeah, it must be nice to be able to pick and choose which rules to follow. ---

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say that in years. It was probably around 2004 that I started hearing that phrase, so this whole, “what is up with kids and their crazy verbiage” seems a little late. On a different but related note, I’ve been deeply immersed in _The Wire_ for about a month now. I find myself often thinking in the idiom that they use on the show. I’m sure by now it’s horribly dated. I love, love, love AAVE. I wish I could keep up on it. I love how clever and fluid it is. ---

Alls I can say is that I hope it winds up on the same heap as “da bomb” which until now had been my least favorite abuse of the Mother Tongue." But then I still say “right on” at moments that make me wish I had thought first. Will “fuckin’ A” ever be a passe term? ---

Around here it’s been the phrase “tell me why”. But I myself have a horrible habit of saying “Right?”. I don’t even realize I’m saying it most of the time until one of my heathens or their friends replies with “right?”. That’s how I/we roll is used more jokingly around here when someone makes an outragous statement. I don’t think I’ve heard it used seriously at least not in the group that camps out at my house. Know what I mean? (Can’t follow that up with Vern with the teens around here cause they look at you stupid) 😉 This thread is outta sight man! ---
