Hm, well The Man Show is rather successful. Plus it’s much less pathetic than FX’s X-Show which reeks of male midlife crisis (as opposed to TMS which reeks of cheap beer and sweaty baseball caps). And Battlebots seems to be doing so well that TLC is apparently ripping it off.
Nice rack, but not a great show.
Actually pretty funny, if a bit edgy
That would be Strangers with Candy
I belive DFYT was orginally a British game show. CC used the exact same gags and everything.
Yeah VS bit it.
On the Matt & Trey as Republicans, I could have sworn Yahoo News had a recent article quoting them saying they were Republicans, but it was also about the supposed lesbian daughter plot line. If that turned out to be a rumor, perhaps Yahoo pulled the article.
So? I graduated from Harvard, and I’m a complete idiot. Trust me, you would not want me running the US.
Still, I wasn’t the dumbest guy on campus. That honor was reserved for one of my roommates who, incidentally, was the son of a former head of state. Ah, legacies. Of course, when whatever turnip I’ve passed my genes on to gets accepted because of dad, you won’t hear me complaining.
"According to Parker, this is not a political show but a show that satirizes the American sitcom. “We had been wanting for several years to do a sitcom that sort of ripped on sitcoms, because we hate them so much.”
For their purposes, the party affiliation of the new president was unimportant. “It didn’t matter whether it was Bush or it was Gore because we’re not out to skewer a president; we’re out to do something very subversive and actually make you really love this guy.”
and
"Production won’t start for a month, and much of the casting and character development remains sketchy. However, when word leaked to the Internet last month about the show’s possible portrayal of the Bush twins as lesbian lovers, “We started getting calls from Washington,” Parker said. Republican operatives reportedly have expressed displeasure about the concept to Viacom lobbyists.
Naturally, Parker said, that just “makes us want to do it all the more.”
I don’t have a problem with this at all,and I very much hope it is extremely rude. As far as I’m concerned, he ain’t the president. Let all the ridicule and disrespect we can come up with be piled upon his stupid, prevaricating head. He is a pretender, entirely owned and operated by big oil/big business, and using his stolen position to be more insufferably evil than even I had foreseen.
So, yes, let the derision begin!
(I hadn’t taken any opportunities to express my deep and abiding antipathy for him lately, this seemed like as good as any)
I really hate to keep beating this issue, but since you don’t seem to have any qualms about it Stoid, I guess I shouldn’t either. I really think you ought to get a damned hobby before this thing totally consumes you.
Would you mind telling just how Bush has “stolen” the presidency? If I remember correctly, the U.S. citizens voted, the ballots were counted, some of them several times, the Supreme Court upheld the outcome of the counts, the electoral college was appointed, the members cast their votes for the persons to which they were pledged, and Bush was sworn to the office. All of this took place according to the laws in place at the time, under great scrutiny and no provable violations of law have surfaced.
You know if the electoral college vote came down to the wire in a state governed by Pinky Gore, Al’s little brother, and there was evidence that golfpants-wearing middle-aged white guys were “discouraged” from casting their votes, and Gore WON the electoral college vote (we won’t even discuss the 550,000 popular vote shortfall, fair enough?), that you Repubs would be mighty god damn sore, don’t you? Admit it. Rush Limbaugh would’ve grown a second head by now. Pat Robertson would’ve moved to Guatemala.
I said in that very post, truthfully I think, that I hadn’t expressed my utter contempt for that man in quite awhile. It’s not as though I have been responsible for even ONE anti-bush thread in months, because I have not. And I have very rarely contributed to any that have been started by others. So I think you better be careful to watch that knee as it spasms in response to my name, Uncle.
However, my relative lack of comment doesn’t mean my opinion of the election has changed, and my opinion of him just keeps getting lowered a bit more each day by his own actions. Which I would have thought impossible, but life is filled with surprises.
Actually, I would mind. Reliving the magic of last November and december holds no fascination for me whatsoever. It has all been covered in great depth in literally dozens of threads. What was also established in those threads is that there is some major disagreement in how we all see these things. This is true not only of the Dope, but of the world at large. Many people feel as I do. I see him referred to as having stolen the presidency all the time. I agree. You do not.
I tend to be of the opinion that those who see it as you do are full of things other than accurate reflections of reality, as well.
And what is to be done about this discrepency? Nuthin’.
I’ll continue to hate the man in the White House and believe he is a thief, a liar, and probably, like his daddy before him*, a criminal of far greater import and meaning than Clinton could dream of. [sub]iran-contra[/sub] I will also continue to believe in what Lieberman said only partially in jest: that he is vice-president of a government in exile. You won’t. Oh well. <shrug>
stoid
*After all, he’s outdone his daddy in other respects as well…it took his father years to break his promise of “No new taxes”, and even then his hand was forced. Dubya started breaking promises and revealing what a slimy little lying fuck he was within days, hell, hours! of taking office. I don’t doubt the son will outshine the father in many more ways yet to be enjoyed.
Actually, I’d venture to guess that proportionally (?) Comedy Central is doing as well or better than any network. After all, the networks produce or buy newly produced programming to cover what…20 hours a day? All 24? And how much of it is worthwhile? Comedy Central produces 10 shows, and 3-5 are worthwhile? That’s pretty good. Better than the nets, I think!
Of course, HBO has created 6 original shows (Larry Sanders, Oz, Arliss, Sex and City, Sopranos and Curb Your Enthusiasm) and 4 are solidly top-notch, one is an acquired taste, and only one sucks anywhere nearly as much as say… “Growing Pains”. Not bad!
See, now I woulda said the opposite! My man loves S&TC, he’s the one that turned me on to it! See, at least our show has SEX! which men love. All your show has is sports, which women don’t care about. (generally). So… Sex wins.
Did anyone watch? I saw enough of it to be surprised that there wasn’t at least one thread started by a pro-lifer expressing perfect outrage.
What I saw wasn’t too harsh on Bush, no harsher than SNL…but the 30-year-old aborted-fetus-president-of right-to-life-organization could certainly be seen as extraordinarily offensive by some people. We thought it was pretty funny, but I fully expect to hear howls of protest…or maybe not? Wouldn’t that be interesting…
I did. To answer the title of the OP, yes, it was supposed to be funny. Supposed to be. Instead, I found it to be incredibly lame. I laughed maybe twice, but that was pretty forced laughter.
On a scale of cleverness and humor, I’d rate it right up there with Sanford and Son, Saved by the Bell, and Facts of Life. Only without the cleverness and humor.
As far as being insulting to pro-lifers, pro-choicers didn’t come out smelling any better.
