> The 10 tattoos that annoy me most

Any tattoo annoys me. I have a very negative attitude toward tattoos.

The only tattoo I’ve seen that I considered unique or clever is the one Duff “Ace of Cakes” Goldman got on his bicep-- a [wire whisk](http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=13182332&albumID=1750465&imageID=18592567). Definitely needs flames though.

> For another perspective, what is so wrong about making a choice you regret later in life? Taking those risks is the essence of living if you ask me. I know people that wear emotional scars far more ugly than a wrinkled tattoo. If my tattoo is the greatest regret of my life when I’m 80, I’ll have done well.

Isn’t growing a matter of making choices, mistakes and regrettable actions?
Hell, I remember sticking an olive up my nose! Scarred me for life! LOL

> I thnk one of my favorites, in terms of the story behind it, is Johnny Depp’s “Wino Forever” tat…After he and Winona Ryder split and he decided to remove it, found the process too painful (“like someone standing on the moon with a stretched rubber band and popping you with it” was how he described it if I recall correctly) so stopped after a few letters. At least it worked out to be something he could live with.

He could;ve kept it as it was and just started drinking.

> Not hiring someone because of tattoos doesn’t have to be based on any stereotypes; if your hiring manager simply doesn’t like tattoos (like, for example, me), then they might hire someone who doesn’t have tattoos over a similarly-qualified individual just on that basis. I don’t like facial piercings, either - I don’t ascribe any stereotype to people having them, I just don’t want to look at them day after day, and as a hiring manager, I definitely would choose against them.

I found this quote rather interesting. Ive worked in the corporate environment doing executive security and worked with political figures. Being Not only a tattoo artist, native american, tattoo collector and business owner; i can say that there are many ways of discriminating against people. I myself, don’t drink and have no tolerance for drunks. I don’t care for Hip-Hop fashion, don’t care for the the main organized religions among a whole slew of other prejudices that the average human animal has. This does not mean that because i hire or fire at my own discretion i will not hire someone for being a christian, social drinker, that listens to rap because i cannot stand looking or listening to them or their beliefs on a day to day basis. If the person is responsible, efficient, a good artist with a strong work ethic i’m game to hiring.

The funny thing is, one of my closest friends is a heart surgeon…and he has almost a full bodysuit.

Then again you wouldnt want a tattooed doctor operating on you or a loved one if need be…:smack:

> I think the real qualifier is the nature of the ink - for one, most of the professionals photographed for Inked Inc may have substantial tattooing, but it can all be hidden by clothing if the occasion calls for it. Their employers wouldn’t see the ink if they were dressed up professionally for an interview.

> Thing is, there’s a world of difference between getting full sleeves you can cover up if need be, and getting a face/neck/hand tattoo that will be visible 24/7. It works fine for someone Lil’ Wayne who doesn’t need to be taken seriously, but I don’t think I could apply for a mortgage from a banker with “Only God Can Judge Me” written up the side of his neck, get my teeth cleaned by a dentist who has “Love/Hate” on his knuckles, or hire a cleaning lady who has a teardrop on her cheekbone. It’s a sign of poor judgment, IMO.

> I actually worry about how well my sister will do in applying for academic jobs next year… she’s got plugs in her ears along with several earrings, a nose ring, a large tattoo on her lower back and another one on her shoulder, and has a fashion sense that’s more skate-punk that button-down professional… she believes her work will speak for itself, but the universities may have trouble believing she’ll be able to command respect from her classes if she looks more like a student than a professor.
>
> For the record, I’ve got a small tattoo on my upper back. Most of my coworkers have no idea it’s there. I also worked for a while with a girl who has full sleeves that looked fantastic, but was always careful to wear long sleeves at the office because she felt it was the appropriate thing to do.

On Lil’ Wayne’s defense - He is a performing artist, as much as i don’t care for his music, as an artist i have to add this first. Because he’s a rapper he doesn’t have to be taken seriously! Wow! So politicians that steal your money while they kiss babies wearing a collared shirt and priests banging little boys as they lead the flock on the road to redemption and repentance should be?? Unless your sister is naked while at work no one will notice her back tattoo. If she wishes to work in that environment (which i have been in the corporate world myself) then she will have to adjust to their mentality unless shes working strictly from home and be anonymous. Then she can be skate-punk on her own time. Ive been to plenty of fetish parties and you see doctors and lawyers, judges, librarians, teachers and deans at these events. It’s the place to unwind because their work environment wont let them. If she wishes to be in that world she’s gotta play by their rules (unfortunately). That is a lesson she will have to learn for herself.

As for your own preoccupations, don’t sweat it. Wear your ink with pride!

The only difference between people with tattoos and people without them …People with tattoos don’t care if you’ve got em or not!😃

I’m an old guy, and I started getting tattooed long before it became a fad or a quick, oftimes regrettable, way to achieve ‘cool’ credibility. I currently have between 17 and 23 tattoos, depending on how they’re counted, and I wouldn’t change or remove a single one of them (although a few of them could stand being touched up and re-colored). All of them together form a tapestry of my life and my experiences, and all of them are important, if for no other reason than nostalgia.

I have a few that are on the list.

> **The Looney Tunes character**

No Looney Tunes characters, but I DO have Spongebob tattooed on the back of my right forearm. It’s my 5-year old son’s favorite character, almost a demigod around our house. I got it to remind me of his childhood. Someday when he’s a smartass 17-year old who hates my guts, I can look at my Spongebob tattoo and remember when he was a sweet little boy and Dad was his best buddy, and sitting on the sofa watching a goofy cartoon about a yellow sponge and his oddball friends was a _great_ afternoon.

> **The symbol in an Asian language you don’t speak**

Yeah, got one of those. I don’t speak Japanese, but I was heavily into Aikido dog years ago and had my sensei write down the kanji for “ki” (life/spirit energy), and later got it inked on my shoulder. I’m fairly certain it doesn’t actually mean “fag”. I’ve checked.

I have the Blue Oyster Cult/Cross of Kronos symbol on my left shoulder. What can I say; when I was younger, I used to really dig B.O.C. Actually, I _still_ dig B.O.C.

> Would you tattoo a swastika on your arm, intending its Indian meaning? If that doesn’t illustrate the point for you, come visit sometime. I’ll take you out to a few bars in Scottsdale.

I actually have a swastika scarification on my chest, intending its Indian meaning, and I still have alot of explaining to do everytime someone sees it. Usually, they do not believe a word I am saying about the sheer existance of the swastika outside of NAZI world

Duff is such a nice guy, and that is obviously very meaningful to him, and always will be. Cool tattoo, IMO.

Maybe I’m just feeling all fatherly since I’m going to be a dad in 7 weeks, but I think that is awesome.

> I don’t get the hate for “tramp stamps”. I don’t have any tattoos, or particularly want any, but if I did, this seems like a pretty ideal location. It’s fairly discreet, and one of the very few areas on the female body unlikely to be marred by sag, wrinkles, fat, or stretch marks.

Bingo! One of the main reasons I chose the small of my back for one of my tattoos is because I knew that despite any weight gain/loss or future pregnancies, my tatt would remain basically unharmed. Two kids later, this is definitely the case. When I chose this spot it was long before the “tramp stamp” became such a fad.

I have five tattoos and they’re all in areas that can be hidden if I choose. If you don’t like tattoos that’s fine, just don’t assume that because I have them I’m some kind of second class citizen.

My soon to be ex-husband has portraits of both of our children, his grandparents, and his dad that I like very much. The poor fool also has a portrait of me mixed in there too. I tried to talk him out of it at the time. I think tattoos of your SO or of your SO’s name are kinda silly. I’ve laughed thinking about how he’ll have to regret that one for the rest of his life. He’s not the type that would have it removed and considering that it’s in a sleeved area, it’s pretty much impossible to cover up unless he just chooses to black out my face. Dumb bastard should have listened to me.
