The 1955 Double-Die Penny.

My best coin find ever was when I was a kid and someone gave me one of those Whitman coin folders for pennies. At that time ALL pennies were wheaties, of course. I had filled all but one slot. One day, I’m walking along staring at the ground and saw something metallic in a mud puddle. I picked it up and it was the 1909 S VDB penny understandably missing from my collection.

I knew nothing about coin values at that age and never bothered to find out what any of them were worth. I was only trying to fill the holes in the folder. Yeah, they got spent on some trifle at some point. :smack:

My best coin finds have been an 1870 Indian-head penny and a 1938 buffalo nickel. Probably not worth all that much, but cool to own something that existed before my great-grandfather was born, and to have acquired it randomly. (at least one of them, I’m pretty sure)
