I was thinking I saw the Gordon Biersch place on Paradise, sort of in the same area as the Hard Rock. It’s been a while, and I’m sure my memory would have to be clouded (says Duke, who likes a dang ol’ Budweiser about as good as anything). **Silenus** , you have met **Yeti** , I’m his shadow. Everybody else email him and get his cell number. We could set up reservations under Cecil Adams, I think that’s the tradition, at any known gatherings. I’ll leave that stuff up to more worldly dopers. ---

It’s on Paradise, a few blocks north of the Hard Rock. The beers are…adequate. Some good, some so-so. I find myself looking forward to this dinner. 😃 ---

_Lotus of Siam_ is located on Sahara Avenue @ Comercial Center Drive- East of the Strip (southwest corner of the intersection). For people coming in it to town, it is about a mile from the Sahara hotel, located on Sahara and the Strip, and the neighborhood isn’t the greatest after dark. But I am sure transportation could be arranged for those without cars 🙂 _Gorden Biersch_ is located on Paradise and north of Flamingo Road, about a half mile north of the Hard Rock. Put me down for 2 people. BTW, if dinner is to be on that Friday… 530 PM would be difficult for me to make it there due to traffic. 630 or later would be better. ---

I appreciate the invite to dinner, but I work Friday night at 1815, so I shall be unable to attend. I will second the area around commercial center not being a good one. Don’t wander around, especially after dark, or we could meet professionally. None of us want that. ---

Crack Dealer My guess is A, but the other 3 choices are intriguing although not necessarily desirable. Too bad you can’t make it at that time **kinoons** ; when do you get off work? Do you work on Saturday? Reserving at 6:30 is an excellent idea, **DMark** , for the reasons you stated. We can then discuss moving the Dopefest to any of the beer joints listed above, if that is the general consensus after dinner. I want to go with the flow of my fellow Dopers, so I don’t want to step on any toes by saying anything definite now about what to do after dinner at Lotus of Siam. It will be early dusk by 8pm, so maybe will be on our way out by then and/or not loiter around much afterwards. ---

From the posts, it seems like meeting at an establishment that specializes in beer might be more popular than one that specializes in food. Perhaps a dinner meet, followed by a beer somewhere (Monte Carlo Brew Pub?) for those who can’t make dinner? ---

I was guessing **kinoons** might be an EMT or something, so put me down for E. EMT And anytime you guys get a simulpost that’s not only the same time, but the same idea, that’s got to be a sign or something. Eating early and then moving on to a drinking establishment would be fine and dandy. ---

In Feb. of this year, we organized a group of approx. 30 people to get together for drinks and appetizers at the Monte Carlo Brew Pub. They have several long tables that are perfect for large groups. One thing I would suggest, though. Do not call ahead and try to reserve them. If you do so, the manager will require a minimum tab (IIRC, parties of 8 or more will have a min.) and an automatic gratuity of 18%. We at first booked the reservation then cancelled and just showed up at the designated time. It worked out well because several people who were on the guest list did not show up, others who were not expected showed up and a grand time was had by all. I’m up for dinner at 6:30 at Lotus of Siam. I think I’m probably one, but I might possibly be two. Also, I have no objection if the general feeling is skip the restaurant and head straight to a brew pub that serves food. I also expect to be relying on the **Yeti** mobile, so I’m amenable. Y’all just have to make sure I get safely tucked up in my hotel room by midnight or so. The Cecil Adams reservation is, indeed, traditional. And I was guessing EMT or emergency room doc. ---

Well, everyone is sort of tiptoeing around it, so I will go out on a limb and suggest meeting for drinks at the Monte Carlo Brew Pub Friday after the dinner - so depending on when the dinner arrangements are finalized, how about setting a time for the Brew Pub - say 8:30 or 9:00? I am flexible - I live here. My suggestion at the pub…find a table and let the bartender or waitress or hostess know it is the “friends of Cecil” table so as others show up, they can ask where the friends of Cecil are seated. I would have suggested Hofbrauhaus as they have great food and beer, but they also have an oompahpah band that is as loud as a jumbo jet and not exactly conducive to conversation. Plus, the Monte Carlo is right smack dab in the middle of things on The Strip, so visitors will be able to scurry off afterwards to do things tourists do and locals can drive out and be on the freeway in minutes. So if the Brew Pub idea is acceptable, put me down for that and not the dinner. Looking forward to seeing you all. And especially looking forward to seeing **kinoons** in the white go go boots, fur mini skirt and leopard halter top…at least that is what I imagined after reading the post about “meeting professionally”… ---
