There’s a video going around, maybe fake, of two adult kids giving their mom shit. Mom went to Villanova and family legend was that she had a fling with a guy named Bob Prevost who became a priest. They had her on Zoom to verify that it was the same guy and it was. So maybe that was bullshit but it’s totally possible that he had a hookup or two before getting the calling. ---

Help me out there, I’ve always thought that in American English, the piece of clothing called trousers in Britain is called pants, like a pair of jeans for instance, and they are not undies. Am I wrong? At least I’ve never seen a pope wear trousers. ---

Yes, in the U.S., “trousers” = “pants,” and pants pretty much never means “underwear.” The word “trousers” does get used sometimes here, too, but it comes across as maybe a bit old-fashioned. ---

But if you say someone is wearing “no pants”, there’s kinda an implication that he naked below the waist. ---

Whereas, if you just say, “he wasn’t wearing pants”, it might mean he’s just wearing underwear, it maybe he’s wearing a kilt, or a dress, it maybe even shorts, depending on the context. Idioms are weird. ---
