The 2025 Papal Conclave

:musical_note:
Well the South side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of a Pope named Leo XIV

There are photos of the pope attending the 2005 World Series between the Astros and White Sox, being a Sox fan apparently. I can’t imagine the torrent of Chicago memes we’re in for in the years ahead.

I just can’t get over the fact that he plays Wordle and Words with Friends. Popes-they’re just like us!

I’ll believe that when he plays Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and chooses to follow either the Demon or Devil mythic paths. C’mon Pope Bob - it’s just role-playing.

More fascinating stuff. His maternal grandparents were apparently listed in historical records as mulatto or black and his grandfather is reported to have come from Haiti. New jokes unlocked about him eating “Chicago dogs” and being the DEI pope. Can’t wait for the MAGA meltdown. Do you think Teump will try to deport him from The Vatican back to Haiti?

Side question about terminology.

Is that properly a photo of the Pope, or a photo of the pope, or a photo of the cardinal or bishop who later became pope? I don’t know that we retroactively attach titles to people without mentioning the retroactivity.

Not complaining to you about your usage, just curious what everyone thinks is proper usage. I know I don’t know.

The artist futurely known as pope?

The protopope?

His Papal Infantry?
His Papal Infancy?

The science building is already named after Mendel (also an Augustinian), but I can’t remember where the math classes meet. And surprisingly, they still haven’t sent out an alumni email blast about him.

The basketball arena did go unnamed for 20 years, after the original namesake was convicted of murder. But it looks like it has a name now.

YES! I love it! Pope Bob has a really nice ring to it.

…a Papal ring…

Probably the same as you would for any world leader in an old picture.

“King Charles before he was King…”

“Then-Senator Obama…”

Etc.

Then- serial conman trump. No, wait …

And i think it depends on context. If you are talking about “the pope’s childhood”, you might say, “the Pope grew up…” But if you are talking about who attended an event, you wouldn’t say that the Pope was at a high school graduation, you would say that the man who would later become Pope…

There’s a lot of pizza joints named Papa Leo’s. Are any of them using this as marketing? Maybe on pizzas with poperoni?

Speaking of marketing, this one took me a little while…

I wonder if there’ll be a time when Pope Bob does something, and we’ll lovingly react with, “That’s the Chicago Way!”

Lovingly, of course. And there may be some situations that might call for tough love.

According to Pokey the Penguin, doing something Chicago style means without pants.

The last Pope Leo featured in various adverts, including ones for Bovril and Vin Mariani (which was a wine laced with cocaine). A possible solution to the Vatican’s financial difficulties?

He could shill for a certain Chicagoland flooring company as the Roman Empire Man.
