A salient tale for these social media driven times. ‘Twas cleaning up, well more correctly rearranging the detritus, on my desk and noticed a substantial stack of postcards from an array of Dopers over several years and several years ago. It provoked a series of fond memories. Not saying I was tearing up or anything but I was moved to take restorative action. So I crafted my topic to open the exchange with care. Consulted the tried and proved topics of yesteryear. Tried a slight of rebranding to show I’d pondered on the matter and had employed a personal touch of whimsy. I spoke with the mods and @engineer_comp_geek provided a comprehensive guidelines to conduct the exchange. Details which I think I have covered in proper depth. I posted the topic and waited with bated breath. … 24 hours passed. Zilch responses. Crickets. An absolute lead balloon. 50+ views. Garners not so much as an electronic sausage. The topic falls off the MPSIMS front page and into the lost realm of the dead and forgotten threads. Gazooks I thought. I’ve killed Bambi. How many Dopers out there must have me on ignore? Self defined myself as being ambitious but rubbish. Then arrived a guardian angel in the form of @kenobi_65 A poster of stature. Suave. Urbane. Respected. With vast experience in the world of advertising. Knows 'is onions, obviously. Posted the merest four words, without embellishment. Minimalistic. Cathartic. By Jove, I’ve lucked out and scored a celebrity endorsement. 🤩 Now we are off to the races. And verily, within minutes the posts come out of the woodwork. PMs flow with abandon. Dialogue. Pleas for assistance and salvation provided. The SDBM in action. We are now in with a chance of having as many participants as have been involved in a decade. And so, humbly I genuflect, nea prostrate myself and acknowledge an influencer extraordinaire and obviously enough the SDMB’s Kardashian. 🙇‍♂️ Sir! Have you thought about running for high office or maybe even starting a cult? Sign me up. ---

However, I do plan to get to a local national park this summer, up in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. They’re not far, being only about an hour and fifteen away, so I will load up on postcards from a souvenir shop, and I’ll be ready for next year. Best, I think, to send postcards of someplace local, more or less. How does that sound? ---

Well after a v.e.r.y s..l..o..w.. s…t…a…r…t we seem to have gathered together a reasonable array of like minded dopers. Thank you to all. A bit light on the internationals but this might just be a further sign of collateral damage from the way winning friends and influencing people seems to be done these days.
