**21.) 1968-74 Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona** One of the best looking Ferraris, IMHO, and certainly in the right spot.
[/QUOTE]

I think this is the one from the initial dream sequence in _Vanilla Sky_. And that car… 😛 it’s lines, it’s bulbous fenders, it’s stance… PURE SEX.

[QUOTE=Rick]
Any list that does not include the most powerful looking sexist sports car ever built is suspect. This bad boy makes an XKE look like the that pain girl with the flat chest, and funny eyeglasses you went to high school with.
Ladies and gentlemen I give you the [Ferrari 250 GTO](http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.diseno-art.com/images/ferrari_250_GTO.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/machines/ferrari_250_GTO.html&h=261&w=400&sz=37&hl=en&start=5&tbnid=vfmxJZekqUQxPM:&tbnh=81&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFerrari%2B250%2BGTO%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG).

The P1800 ran from 1961 IIRC to 1974, first as a coupe and later as hatchback.
The other thing about a P1800 is that the car with the highest mileage ever is a P1800 owned by a guy named Irv Gordon. Irv has somewhere over 2,400,000 miles on this 1964 P1800. :eek:
[Here are some P1800 pics including Irv’s](http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://volvo1800pictures.com/shows/anaheim_05/P1800%2520ES%2520on%2520display.jpg&imgrefurl=http://volvo1800pictures.com/shows/anaheim_05/fotoalbum_anaheim_05_2005.htm&h=288&w=384&sz=20&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=9-8SyjU7nNVPyM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=123&prev=/images%3Fq%3D1800%2BES%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN)
Don’t know if I would put it in the top 25, but very pretty for an everyday driver. Can be a cast iron bitch to work on.

Well it was listed on that Australian site as a Frearri, and it’s got the badge on the side. It is listed as a Ferrari Dino. Isn’t Dino just a brand of Ferrari or do they count as separate companies? (it seems much closer to Ferrari than RUF is to Porsche)

Ferrari built the Dino as a tribute to his dead son. But originally Dinos had no Ferrari badges; the Dino was supposed to be a separate line, like Lexus. The Ferrari badges you see on them nowadays were added by the owners.

[QUOTE=Tuckerfan]
**TheLoadedDog** , is that the Falcon that was one of the Mad Max cars? If so, I agree that it’s a great looking car.
[/QUOTE]

**Tuckerfan** , I know my cars better than my movies (my only experience with _Mad Max_ was watching it on network TV many, many years ago, and I think I got bored and wandered off. So, I couldn’t give you a direct answer off the top of my head, but I did some googling for you, and it appears the answer is no. Falcons featured heavily in the film, but more the standard 70s “Coke bottle” shape, and not the squared-off GTHO.

[Here](http://www.madmaxmovies.com/cars/madmax/index.html) is an index of _Mad Max_ vehicles (The one I think you’re thinking of might be one of the Interceptors).

[Here](http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/images/car_info/ford_falcon_xy_gt.jpg) is a pic of a Falcon GTHO. The picture doesn’t do it justice, and I know some Dopers might click on it and think, “Meh. Just another 70s car”, but these things are EXTREMELY impressive in the flesh (and there are quite a few restored/preserved ones on the road today). They _sound_ awesome.

And [here’s](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Falcon) the Wikipedia page on Australian Falcons 1960-present (and its successful, but slightly chequered, career).

A couple of GTHO anecdotes:

- The HO part stood for “Handling Option”, which was a tacit way of implying that all Australian cars of the time were crap, and handling was actually something you’d pay extra for, otherwise you’d get a houseboat. Up intil about the late 80s, Aussie metal involved moving the steering wheel constantly to go straight, moving it about five minutes before you wanted to turn, and having spongy suspension and fading brakes.

- The GTHO series ran through “Phase I” to “Phase III”, with each getting more and more insanely fast. When Ford announced "Phase “IV”, the government - by now in the early days of getting serious about road safety - quietly took Ford Australia aside, and said, “Look, those cars are going to be street legal, and we can’t stop you building them if you really want to, but bear in mind you are the largest supplier of vehicles to the federal government fleet, and if you release this car, then we just might be giving Holden (GM) a call.” The Phase IV was never released.

While I will admit that the various vehicles mentioned so far are quite attractive by many standards, for me, there is but [one true car](http://images.google.com/images?q=Lotus+Esprit+Turbo&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images) . I can imagine no series more lovely, beautiful, or sensual.

But then, I’m a weirdo with a penchant for British cars, so… 😛
