I loved the speech, but if her coy coming-out-while-refusing-to-come-out-ness wasn’t frustrating enough, the sound kept cutting out during it, too. Grr. I just want to give her a big hug and a cup of tea. ---

Not to mention, now every winner is being rushed to make up the time lost during Jodie’s speech. I think the sign says “Wrap Up” as soon as they get to the mic. ---

Am I the only one rolling my eyes and talking to the screen, “shut up already, it’s not a lifetime achievement award ferchrissakes!” With the exception of Foster. That chick from Girls with the half page typed speech, and then not just getting on with it already once she’s up there. Ah! But not just her, it’s been damn near everyone. ---

I’m shocked at Argo’s win. It was good, but nothing mind-blowing. ZDT and Lincoln were both better. This should make the Oscars pretty interesting. ---

In all the praise for Les Miserables, did nobody mention Victor Hugo? He’s not my favourite writer by far, but wasn’t he worth a mention? Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did a creditable job as hosts, light, funny, charming, not taking themselves too seriously nor hamming it up. ---

My antenna (yeah, I watch broadcast TV) went wonky for about two minutes in the middle of Jodie Foster’s speech. She had just done the “I’m pretending I’m coming out though I’m not” bit, up through the Honey Boo Boo crack … and by the time I got the show back, it sounded like she was retiring from show biz and everyone was in tears. What did I miss? ---

Like Tommy Lee Jones I didn’t really dig the Ferrell/Wiig thing. It was way too long. I wish they’d been played off rather than Daniel Day Lewis. The notcomingoutness was far from the most cryptic part of Jodie Foster’s speech. I can’t believe they left The Courtship of Eddie’s Father out of the montage. ---
