You’re proving my point. Americans either seem to be virtual non drinkers or alcoholics. My dinner guests are never violent or throwing up, and they never drink drive, as it’s really frowned upon here in the UK. Drinking a bottle of wine over a long dinner doesn’t make everyone alcoholics
I think you have that backwards, at least as far as Google is concerned. Googling “Mimosa recipe”, the results are pretty consistent in calling for OJ and sparkling wine. If you Google “Buck’s Fizz recipe,” pretty much everything says, “OJ and champagne.”
Wikipedia, on the other hand, says they’re the same thing.
Based on the results as of now, with 46 respondents, the weighted mean number of drinks per Doper is 1.59.
I just voted “2” so I increased your average. The feast was had a non-drinking household full of children. So none then.
But a stiff Scotch and later a rum + eggnog was had to sooth my shattered nerves after returning home from the event.
Aaaand … I’ve now revoted as “4”; those were not small servings. ![]()
According to NIDAA the “standard” glass of wine is about 150mL, so there would be about 5 of those in a standard bottle of wine.
Of course I don’t know anybody who pours “NIDAA standard” glasses of wine. The typical wineglass holds about double that, if not more. So under that rubric, a standard bottle holds about 2.5 glasses of wine.
That’s more than people “ought” to drink, but reality being what it is, for a celebratory event lasting 4-5 ours, 1 bottle per adult is a reasonable planning number. There might be surplus, but if there isn’t, the host can’t really be blamed for budgeting 5 standard drinks per person.
What I was asking was why are you so concerned about a statistical difference that’s so minimal it could be an artifact of differences in how accidents are reported or how records are kept. Do you think your relatives are in danger because the reported rate of drunks involved in fatal accidents is 29.6% (Canada) instead of 29% (USA)?
lol it was well deserved party but I’d of sent the bill to Congress:rofl:
