> And that brings me to my second point. Is it just me or was a huge amount of the travel done by taxi this time? I don’t remember any trains or buses outside of the last legs detour, and I think they only drove themselves during the first few legs. I wonder how the standings would be if we took taxis out of the equation, because they really played huge factor at many points.

I swear I read somewhere that the producers have said that they don’t want the racers driving themselves on the last leg as they can get crazy.

That said, I’d have preferred it if there’d been pre-picked taxis sitting there after the donut shop. Too many races have been won by nothing more than “Who flagged a taxi first.”

A little? Holy smokes. When Starr called out to him “You look like Peter Pan!” I can imagine his reaction was “Hoooraaaaayy!”.

> I loathed with the passion I loathed Flo and the Bitter Lousiana(?) women the whiney, snivelly, wormy douchebag with the dark hair on the Frat Boys team. Frankly, he’s in a class with Flo, the Pizza Brothers and whatshisname–the personal-trainer for the handicapped woman a few seasons back as being baggage. Hell, Flo at least sold snails and did a couple of challenges well before she had her meltdown. Did the slimey little twerp do ANYTHING on this race except berate the big reddish haired guy?

Well he was pretty good at the neanderthal flour bag hauling at the bakery. 🙂

I have to admit, the Frats grew on me towards the end of the race. I’m a little sad they didn’t win. But did anyone else hear Nick call Starr “Honey”? I swear, if there’s not some creepy incest going on, Nick secretly wishes there was.

Although, he did make fun of the divorcees for running around half-naked in India when Starr was sitting right next to him practically falling out of her shirt and he didn’t even notice.

Re: Proper clothing for India–

Even grandmothers in India show nekkid midriffs and cleavage. However, they always keep their legs covered. A flimsy top and long pants is appropriate, but not hootchy-cootchy shorts.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I don’t mind taxis in the earlier legs, because luck will probably even out over the long run, and I like dumping the teams into the scrum of a foreign country rather than having spoon-fed transportation. However, both of these reasons disappear in the final leg–especially this one, where it seemed like the taxi rides were pretty lengthy, with a high potential to affect final placement.

I think perhaps having a provided driver, but forcing the teams to tell him where to go, would put the blame for failure or success squarely back on the teams without letting the freeway action get out of hand.

I like that idea–and it’s the one that the non douche-bag frat-boy came up with\*–he was directing his loser taxi driver–calling ahead, etc.

Y’know what would have been a great team? The football guy and the red-headed frat boy. That would leave the human harpy and the whiney punk to kill each other. 😃

I’m surprised one of the women hasn’t turned up in a [Macabi Skirt](http://www.macabiskirt.com/how_it_works.php) (unless in an earlier season I missed), it seems like it would be the ultimate article of clothing to bring on the race..

Yay for Nick and Starr! And it’s sweet that Dallas and Starr are now dating.

That’s not the most interesting thing in that article…

Well…I have to say that considering his chosen profession, his chosen city of residence, and his youth, I’m inclined to believe him, despite my gaydar pinging. Frankly, his location, age and profession would tend to make me think that the LAST thing he’s worried about is being pegged as gay…or that being pegged as gay just wouldn’t really matter to him. So why would be lie about his orientation?

Ergo, okay…he’s straight. [sub]Damnit![/sub]

It was a good season, but I just couldn’t root for Starr and Nick. They weren’t the worst people ever to be on the show, but vaguely nasty to me. Good racers, though.

Not terribly pleasant people, true, but damn fine racers. They got to the Detour second, and left first. They got to the memory challenge second, and left first. And after Toni & Dallas went out, I’ll root for “vaguely nasty” over “evil” and “stupid”.

By the way, the friend that I entered with used to live in Portland. Now I know why we didn’t get selected. We’d have been out in front anyway, but with an advantage like this, it just wouldn’t have been suspenseful enough for anyone to watch.

I did not know there was a non-stop flight from Frankfurt to Portland.

Bump!

Way late to the party. The last 3-4 eps got stuck in traffic on my DVR, then the taxi driver said, “don’t worry, we’ll find it.”

I kinda wanted Ken & Tina to win. Ken mostly, but Tina did show some class, even though she was edited as a bit bitchy. I respect Ken, and he must know something we don’t. Or maybe there’s something we don’t know about Ken. He lost his penis in an unfortunate accident?

Nick & Starr were never my favorites. I’m not creeped out by their closeness like so many here. It was more like they’re some sort of genetic clone experiment. I expected them to link hands and start telekinetically levitating things, or mentally controlling people until their nose bled and their brain exploded. In reality though, they ran the best race.

I laughed at Andrew & Dan trying to march, and I suspect they hammed it up. They had to have. Other’s mentioned their 4-year-old picked up the march better than they did. Unless they’re mentally retarded - which I doubt - they did it on purpose. And you know what? They got a bunch of Russian conscripts to relax and laugh and knowing what a shitty life the average Russian conscript lives, they deserve a medal just for that.

If you guys ever get the chance, watch Amazing Race Asia 1/2/3. IMHO its better than the America version. Tasks, road blocks, etc are much better and more strenuous. The excitement and nail biting is more intense than the US version. but thats just my opinion

The Asian series has been pretty good despite the more restrained traveling but this past season was almost perfect and Asia 3 which finished up a few weeks before wasn’t as strong as the previous Asian races.
