I seem to recall that there have been a couple of Dopers who have applied to be on that show that is in no way connected to a certain George Orwell book.

I’d love to see some of us get on a show like _Survivor_ or _TAR_. I’d love to do either one of them, but who is able to take that much time off work? I mean, I could during the summer, because I’m a teacher, but I’d still have to arrange for someone to watch my kids. I just can’t up and leave my family for a month or more.

Oooh, oooh (waving hand!). . . I can, I can, Mr. Kottair!
And I can read a map. And I knows a Route Marker when I sees one!

But I’m a klutz and I need my sleep. So, I’ll volunteer to take care of BiblioCat’s kids so she can go.

[QUOTE]

I didn’t apply for … ahem … to be a HouseGuest. I applied for _another_ show … the other one **scotandrsn** doesn’t like. My husband said he’d never forgive me if I didn’t try out, since I’m such a _complete_ junkie. And when I told my boss I was considering it, he said he’d keep my job open. But I don’t have kids yet … if I did, that would make it much harder to do.

Oh, so you don’t want to meet Julie Chen and eat PB&J for a month, you want to meet Jeff Probst and eat rice for a month. Gotcha. 😃

Wow, you’ve posed an interesting dilemna. I hate Julie Chen and rice, but love Jeff Probst and PB&J. Hm…what to do? How does one choose between Jeff Probst and PB&J? 😃

Start by finding out if it’s creamy or chunky PB. 😉

Thinking about it more, I can see the point about the “Yield” being something that directly lets one team effect another. Which is something that they’ve avoided up till now. Still, I think it’ll probably be more of a psycological thing, than a real detriment to the race. The hourglass didn’t look that big, so I’m thinking maybe 3 minutes or so at most. Enough time that you might beat someone out for the 1st place prize at the pit stop, and maybe it’ll have an impact on the team that gets eliminated…but we’ll have to wait until someone uses it before we’ll know exactlly how it works.

Oh, and TAR is the only reality show that I’ve ever applied for. If I could get my wife to play up her diabeties, I bet we could get on…she just doesn’t like to use that as an excuse for anything. And really, while they say a month, it’s probably only a couple of weeks…shoot, I’d take leave without pay for that long, just so I was able to see some of the places they go.

If there were a show where I could have nothing to eat but PB&J and Jeff Probst for three months, I’d be in _absolute heaven_.

Oh, wait … did I just say that _out loud_?

(And **twickster** - I am thinking something in relation to your comment that would really get me in trouble if Certain People [a/k/a My Husband The Lurker] knew about them. I am _so_ going to Hell.)

😃 Me, too. I don’t watch BB anymore, but I LOVE _Survivor_. And I could eat PB&J sammiches forever. I absolutely **loathe** rice, however.

Back on track… with regard to the Yields… am I correct in assuming each team can only use it once in the whole game, like the Fast Foward? But it can be used _on_ another team multiple times, right? So the others could potentially gang up on one team and “Yield” them several times, right?

\*Each leg of the race has a YIELD point. Teams must stop at the YIELD location to do two things before continuing along the course: 1) They must check to see if they have been YIELDed by another team; 2) If no Team has been YIELDed, they must decide whether to use the YIELD or not. If a Team is YIELDed, they must turn over the hourglass and wait until all the sand runs out before they may continue with the race. A Team may use the YIELD to stop another Team only once throughout the entire course of the race. However, there is no limit to the number of times that a Team can be YIELDed by the other Teams. \*

Question regarding Charla/Mirna…in the beginning of the show, I remember them saying something to the affect that they were planning on using Charla’s height to their advantage to get help. But, when they were lugging the meat to the carneceria with the help of another guy, Charla (?) was saying that they didn’t want or need help to do this. (Or was I just not paying enough attention?)

You can’t. They specifically said that the Yield can only be used on teams that are behind you.

They also mentioned that the time they have to wait varies. I don’t know if they’ll be told how long a specific Yield will last before they decide to use it or now.

The way I remember it is that the guy was going to help them by carrying the meat, but Mirna told him not to carry the meat, presumably as that would have beena violation of the rules, but instead had him carry the bags.

So what good is it? If they’re already behind, how does the yield help?
