On this date a brave man flew further and higher than anyone else before.

Now if we could only be worthy of that legacy, let’s get going to Mars, dammit!

The cold war is over and I, for one, don’t care which country made advances, as long as the advances were made.

a milestone indeed.

i think at lunchtime i’ll go home and put in ‘the right stuff’ dvd to celebrate while i eat. one of my all-time favorite movies.

This year is the 50th anniversary of Sputnik - arguably even more important than the first person in space.

Well, maybe on October 4 Sputnik will merit GoogleArt, like Gagarin [did.](http://www.google.com/)

Actually I thought that was a baseball at first glance, and I thought, “oh, it must be opening day baseball season”, but then I clicked on it and up came a Soviet cosmonaut.

My view is that each step is important, without somebody placing a Sputnick in orbit, there’d have been more trouble placing a Yuri in orbit.

I’m just celebrating one step.
