As for DEI, this could mean a lot. Is a museum with exhibits on slavery DEI? Is it DEI for the federal government to fund Howard University (which is funded similarly to state supported universities outside D.C.)? I’m in favor of both slavery exhibits and funding Howard, but it is hard to deny that those are opinions DEI adjacent. Considerations like this, and the general GOP approach to DEI-bashing, make me highly uncomfortable with ZosterSandstorm’s framing.

In old times the Republicans and conservative influencers talked a lot about meat-and-potatoes kind of ideas. Nowadays they are mostly chatting about the nut and banana ones.

There is no possible way to do so. It’s a trap. The Democrats could literally follow Trump’s policies word for word and they’d still be portrayed as somewhere between Angels Davis and Joseph Stalin.

Thinking that by adopting one or two of Trump’s racist mysognistic policies the Democrats could somehow change the narrative is naive as thinking if we only communicate how bad Trump is well enough senior GOP figures will change their ways and turn on trump.

Trump didn’t succeed by saying “well the Democrats are right about these couple of issues but on the rest of them are terrible”. This is one way the Democrats need to emulate Trump. The GOPs policies are all part of the same corrupt, failed, hateful platform that’s destroying America. The tarrifs, the transphobia, the ICE gestapo, the ridiculous taxpayer funded dictatorial attempts at a cult of a personality all of it. That’s what Trump did for Democrats and when when Democrats do back it will have the advantage of being 100% correct.
