The apartment renter's greed is killing me

While I’m happy that you’ve asserted you never really intended to shoot out anyone’s windows, I do want to caution you to make sure that, in the future, you make it clear at the onset that any such illegal acts are purely fantasies. Your first post did not make that clear and, thusly, violated board rules. I’m just making a note now instead of handing out a warning because, by the time I came across this thread, you had already posted a clarification; had I come upon the thread any earlier, however, you would have been warned.

If a time like that ever did exist, it wasn’t in 1976.

Speaking of that coffee, you are aware that coffee prices spiked threefold in a matter of a few months in 1977?

Good news, Friends!!!

I just finished signing on the dotted line and won’t have to do it again until January of 2009!

And the good thing is is that I was able to convince her to bring it down by $10 less per month. Not a smash home-run hit, but better than a stick in the eye! (You’ll never know how much I HATE moving!)

It was funny how when I was about to sign that I made the witty remark that “I’d like to rent for free.” I had to laugh out loud when I said that, God bless me.

One little matter that I’d forgotten to mention before was that the deal also included that for the first month of the new lease, August, I’d get $600.00 off my rent as a signing incentive. With this deal I BRILLIANTLY negotiated, that deduction remains; thus my August rent will be for only $160.00.S$S

Well, Friends, what I guess I’ve learned from all of this is that one really needs to think positive and keep a good attitude, as that way a vibe just seems to come along and magically makes things work out well for all parties involved!s

And, Dear Friends, I want to again thank you from the bottom of my fart for all of your kind advice and encouragement. Without your loving support I doubt I would have ever have found the fortitude to take-on that savvy landlord of mine. She was a tough negociator, for sure, but I walked away having bested her, and it’s all because of you folks being there in the spirit … backing me up 100% all the way with your amazing love! Thanks Much!!

I’m glad things have worked out to your satisfaction.

Uhm. Wow.

You realize that, even if you took the extra $40/month, your rent would have gone up by a total pf $120 over eighteen months, right? If you put that $600 into the bank, it would probably be somewhere a little south of $100. Now, you’re actually ahead by $60, and somewhere around $85-90 after interest. Your rent went down.

If that’s dying by greed, kill me harder.

Thanks guys!!

I wish I could do math as well as I can do obnoxious. Thanks for being good sports!!

joke retracted Sorry guys - didn’t realize we were still in MPSIMS! Apologies.

Glad you are happy with the way things worked out. You and the landlord both win, because he/she doesn’t have to have a vacancy/advertise/screen prospective tenants, all that stuff and more costs time and money. Like I said, if you are a decent tenant, and your approach is friendly and reasonable, you can often get a landlord to work with you. Being nice is key.

Me too. You’d probably crack that whole Grand Unification theory in a couple hours.

Glad to hear you were able to work out this rental mess.

I’m moving, so (believe it or not) I do sympathize with the cost of renting.

I wouldn’t rest on my accomplishment, however. Considering how much angst this renewal caused you, I’d resign myself to the fact that rents do tend to increase, and will do so by January 2009. Perhaps you might think about saving towards a purchase (as has been suggested in this thread).

Best of luck!
