You insisted that I should be fighting the Supreme Court, an act which by your own admission you are not doing. Therefore you are a hypocrite, hypocrite.
59 replies since I last opened the thread. Did I miss anything important? Or is it just more Smapti saying, ‘Well Trump hasn’t gassed anyone yet,’ and everybody else saying, ‘He’s moving in that direction.’?
Pretty much what you said. Smapti still has their head up their ass.
So, ABOUT the title of this thread being a strawman that nobody has said.
Can I introduce you to someone?
Sounds like Kolak_of_Twilo didn’t get the memo.
I suggest you go lie down until you sober up.
I’ve been sober for five months, numbskull. I suggest you lie down until you locate your backbone.
You are the one dismissing what this administration has been doing.
Over and over and over and over again.
And you’re doing what, aside from waving the white flag?
If you really think Trump is going to overturn elections and refuse to give up power then FUCKING DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Acknowledging reality. Which is the first step to doing something.
Try it sometime.
UGGGGHHH! I gotta chime in here, folks. I’ve followed this whole damn thread…
“Less filling!” "Tastes great! “Miller High-Life is the same beer with a different label!”
To all of you arguing with each other-- and I take no preference to any poster’s opinion-- you are all falling for it.
We all want this deadbeat POTUS out of here, and the tone with all these arguments is really making it seem MORE pointless than the OP’s original question! But how is this same-side bickering going to help other people go out and protest, or call or write their reps?
To answer the OP-- it’s definitely not fucking boring, we can all see that.
Some of you know me in Game Room as an avid Eagles fan (BIRDS!). And you all reminded me of a south Jersey brawl that erupted years ago when Vick became our quarterback. Over 20 people get into an argument about how McNabb, or Charmicheal were a better captain, or how the picks failed, or how Fat Andy couldn’t complete the team’s confidence. TLDR: 4 people arrested, all had Eagles gear on from head to toe.
This type of argumentative crap is only splitting up those who are against this dumb-ass administration into useless factions. Like, “Yeah, we want Trump out of office, but we want it for better reasons than the other Trump haters!” And when it’s all over and the admin is gone, it’s looking like it’ll be, “Glad we got him out for reasons that OUR side believed in!”
As I said, I don’t disagree with anyone’s opinion in this thread entirely, but the way some of you go at each other…
We will NEVER have an answer to this thread, even if the orange fuckstain keels over while accepting a bribe on camera in 18 different angles. Imagine the news spin on something like that!
So, FFS, stop with the “points” that we’re at, or already have been at.
I just think that arguments like the ones on this thread will make people who might want to protest or voice their own opinion might not exactly inspire a solid reaction to all this.
FWIW, today on his Hopium Chronicles Substack, Simon Rosenberg responded to a “Game over, man!” commentor (my emphasis below):
Simon Rosenberg:
Your cynicism is both unwelcome here and misplaced. Prominent Republicans are now making OUR arguments about the central legislative initiative of the early Trump era. This is a huge win for us, and evidence that work does matter, that we can change minds, that their control over the daily discourse can be overcome, and that MAGA can be defeated. We don’t know when there will be a true meaningful break from Trump but the only way it happens is with early, initial steps like this.Simon Rosenberg:
Chris, my point here is that you already wrong and misunderstanding the transaction and what is happening here. It is not about being right - this is not about you. 12 House Republicans just adopted our argument about Trump’s highest legislative priority. THIS IS A HUGE FUCKING WIN. It shows we can change minds, win debates, and as I said when their thing collapses, which it will someday, the break will start like this. So we just keep working it, building support, taking the wins when they come and keep getting stronger, and making them weaker. We never know when the break will come but if we cynically don’t work these moments when they arise the break will never come.Michael G Baer:
Take the wins when they come folks. Its easy to see past as prologue, but that idea is a trap in these unprecedented days. This group is working under the assumption that the GOPs will cave when they fear their own electoral chances by staying with Trump more than they fear going against Trump.
Absolutely ridiculous to think he will be impeached (and convicted) or forcefully removed. You have to be trolling.
If he tries to assume the kind of dictatorial authority some people are predicting, then all bets are off. We’re venturing into uncharted territory.
I do not troll. A military coup is a distinct possibility in the near future.
I see a revolution as the most likely if things get bad enough. This would not go well.
Civil war would be at #2 but I’m not exactly sure how the states would line up.
A military coup is at best a distant 3rd. Maybe further down the list of potential outcomes than that.
QFT at least on this topic.
It absolutely is not. There is not a shred of evidence or logic to believe this.
The armed services is, if anything, one of Trump’s most important assets.
You need to work past your deep-set American exceptionalism. The military isn’t some noble pack of patriots who will do the right thing here. They will, like militaries everywhere, follow orders. They are MORE pro-Trump than the average American, after all.
Trump will be President until at leeast January 2029 unless he dies.
I keep seeing this thread title, and I have to wonder. Now that our demigod president has been running around for three months like a shrew on crystal meth in his efforts to completely take over our government and, in the process, dominate the entire world, do you still feel that our fears are still insignificant to the point of being “fucking boring”?
If he sticks to the certain limits, you’re right. But it means he doesn’t have the ability to do anything he wants.
For example, if he had kept all the tariffs up without this 90 day pause, the US stock and bond markets would have both collapsed by now, and he’d be on his way out, one way or another.
Will he be stupid enough to cross this line, on tariffs or any other issues? It’s impossible to say. He’s already caused irreprable harm to the United States and to the post-Cold War world order that it benefited so much from. We are already in a new, much shittier era, thanks to Trump. But he has enough of a self preservation instinct that he did pause most of the tariffs. So, we will see…
Personally, I would bet he keeps backing down before anyone feels forced to grow a spine to stop him, but an actual removal from office would be the only way for America’s reputation to start recovering any time soon.
And why should we believe that? When has a President ever been impeached from office for causing economic disaster? That would never happen, even under more democratic conditions.
I see no reason to believe this. The armed forces would not stage a revolution because the stock market was doing badly.
Trump has done several things that merit impeachment already. They haven’t moved on that either. He’s just shrugging off a Supreme Court order.
…no shit Sherlock? What the does that have to do with anything? Who said anything about impeachable offences being the key to getting him out of office?
Right now if right wing politicians voted to impeach Trump it would be political suicide, because MAGA has the Republicans by the balls.
If Trump crashed the economy hard enough, that calculus would change for the Republicans in Congress.
You can always make up impeachable offences if that’s what you think your base wants. See: Bill Clinton. And with Trump, you don’t even have to make anything up.
