The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

I understood the point of that post to be that Trump and ICE are ignoring due process. If they want to take you, they’ll take you, and it doesn’t matter what papers you have.

It looks like the guy in Florida was released, but they ignored his papers and made him spend a night in jail.

That’s a very different statement than having your passport declared a forgery.

I know things are bad, but exaggeration doesn’t help our side, especially when the exaggeration is also spreading one of the fascists’ talking points that resistance is futile.

I guess this is a case where the excluded middle is bigger than complete success or complete failure. So no, that trump can do whatever it wants is not a boring argument, he is trying his dimmest **, but his results are a mixed bag, It is to the citizens of the US to record the times he fails too, as it is clear that even there, there is a lot of harm that he is doing. And in that view, in Trump’s little mind, he is succeeding because he still hurts a lot of the ones that he hates.

We are not helpless, and we can do something, but one should not just look at the times he is stopped, we have to do the effort to oppose him even if he is getting his way at times.

** Yeah it is supposed to be dammest, but the grammar AI is onto something, so I leave it there…

I think it’s “damnedest”

Dammest is the old fashion way to say it.

Yeah, I’m hitting 60 next year. So get off my lawn.. you wippersnapper!!

No way! I turn 60 in January. Who’s the whippersnapper now?

[Shakes tiny fist]
You win this one, Optimus (past his) Prime!

Sure, he can rename the Gulf, but can he really rename dementia “Fred Trump’s Disease”?

Trump is almost twice that. It’s not a healthy country.

Some people prefer to wallow in despair and fancy themselves bold truth-tellers for doing so.

One difference – only one of many – is that, in the Nixon days, we basically all got our news from the same (or relatively equivalent) places.

There wasn’t a RW Fantasyland … yet … though Roger Ailes proposed it to Nixon in 1970.

RW media could very well have saved Nixon’s bacon.

Cross posted from another Trump thread:

White House announces new elements of its “Fuck the Constitution, the Supreme Court, and America in general” policy:

Still bored?

Edit to change: moving on

Is this the official White House thread? WTF?

The excellent Slow Burn podcast “The Rise of Fox News” talks about this. Gathering around the water cooler is now dead as we all listen and watch different things.

Real White House account, yes. Note that the NYT headline they purport to “fix” isn’t a real NYT one, but that’s hardly the point.

Well, we have an answer.

Nothing more stable than a government that constantly vacillates depending on who the boss last talked to.

And don’t think that people with money to invest haven’t noticed!

It’s great to know that our economic and diplomatic policy is completely determined by people being in the right place at the right time. Have you said thank you yet?
