The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

Most of the world has not been enamoured with the USA for decades. As far back as World War II, the phase “Overpaid, oversexed and over here!” indicates the popularity- even as the US was helping a huge amount to save Europe.

I know (online) a bunch of really cool Americans, but there is a reason Canadians put a maple leaf flag on their backpacks when they travel.

About the title. I know I’ve been bored to tears quite often, while others have been bored to death. Quite a few in Congress have been bored stupid.

On the long list of bullshit Trump is putting the country through, his ridiculous ballroom, the destruction of the Rose Garden, and even the demolition of the East Wing just doesn’t register as anything I need to be worried about. I should be upset. I don’t fault anyone else for being upset. I just don’t have it in me to be upset because it’s low on my list of priorities.

The tide in US politics will never change because Trump is blowing some people up, and treating other people like animals.
But it could with something like “disrespect to a building”.
That’s what might get a rise out of the general public. The people that made Jerry Springer famous.

Nah, I’m pretty sure most of them were already stupid before they got elected.

I’m wondering if and when the demolition company will be paid.

I’ve just been informed by my handlers we should be calling it the Epstein Ballroom.

With everything else that’s going on it’s hard to get too upset about this. It seems like just another log on the fire. But I do understand the emotional reaction, it’s a direct attack on an American symbol, something that’s meant to represent the country as a whole and bring us together rather than divide us. It would be like deciding the Statue of Liberty should have a different pose, or redoing the Lincoln memorial. We traditionally are supposed to think of the presidency as an office that someone inhabits as a steward for a short period of time before handing off to the next steward. He’s not acting like that. In modern parlance there’s a “grossness” to it. And the thought that the president can simply snap his fingers and make this happen is antithetical to the idea that the White House is supposed to be the “people’s house.” This is something that should be considered and debated carefully before being implemented. He’s treating the White House like it’s one of his gaudy ass casinos or hotels.

Personally I hope the project runs out of money and we get to see construction scaffolding hanging off the side of the White House for 3 years. Let everyone see that on TV and in newspapers and news articles for the next 3 years. The symbolism is off the freaking charts. Hubris and entitlement on full display. Did Trump voters vote for him so he could tear a hole in the side of the White House?

I don’t know if it’s possible for Trump to run out of money. The grift is too strong at this point. What I would expect instead is it turns out whoever he got to design the ballroom and/or build it is an even bigger grifter and it turns out their only prior construction experience is assembling tends for the Fyre Festival.

The tearing down of a building doesn’t matter to me per se, except that it’s serving to bring this truth home to me.

Sounds like the demo company was stupid enough to have company info visible on their equipment and now they’re getting grief from the public.

I think he’s very likely to run out of money. Trump is very bad at handling money. There’s a reason he went bankrupt so many times.

It’s true that he’s collecting a lot of money now. He’s the President and that means people are bribing him and he can steal government money.

But as the gold ornaments in the Oval Office and the ballroom plans for the East Wing demonstrate, Trump spends money as fast as he collects it.

And Trump surrounds himself with people as crooked as he is and he’s not smart enough to follow his own financial records and keep track of things. I’m sure the majority of money that Trump collects gets embezzled in turn by the people who “manage” things for him.

Gee… I wonder…

Let’s Look back at trumpie’s record in such situations.

I’ll bet the company is already regretting the decision to take on this project. When they wind up not getting paid, they’ll be even more unhappy. Donnie will probably find some excuse to sue them so they’ll have to pay HIM (not the US gummint, but Donnie personally).

Boy, I’d think they would think twice before demolishing part of the friggen White House. Did they even get a permit for that?

and invading San Francisco just because he wants to – maybe it’s practice for Canada?

Anyhow, are we to BINGO yet?

He’s not spending his own money on those things. He’s spending taxpayer money, as well as taking bribes donationes tributes from a whole bunch of corporate donors.

In the meantime, people are losing their health insurance, prices are still high, and SNAP benefits will stop on Nov 1. These things are not an issue for me, but two of my relatives will have to deal with it. I have already purchased gift cards to a couple of grocery stores for them, but the health insurance is beyond my abilities. I also will drop off some foodstuffs at a pantry. As a private citizen who cares, I don’t know what else to do. I hope hope hope this stuff does not bite the dems in the ass a year from now.

No. I read a post from the National Park Service which outlined all of the steps which are legally required before a national monument (which the White House legally is) can be altered. The post noted that none of these steps were followed.

Finally, an impeachable offense.

Not with the government shutdown! Would it be giving him too much credit to say he waited for this exact moment to begin this episode of dick-swinging?
