I don’t want to turn this into a hijack so will stop my line of questioning if it appears to be heading that way but… when does the federal financial year run from? Surely budgets are agreed prior to the new year? I just don’t understand how things just stop right there and then. Ok, the politicians keep getting paid, but what about, say, all the administration functions just involved in keeping that going? Will Mitch McConnell be required to moonlight as a Capitol security guard? Is Nancy Pelosi going to be on tray collection duty in the cafeteria next door? Who turns out the lights each evening, Mike Johnson?!
Exactly what I said. But it is larger than the White House in footprint and height! The 3D model looks so imbalanced it’s almost surreal. He may not be planning on leaving.
Maybe this “ballroom” is actually a fortress, a defensible position where he can hole up in case the country rejects him like an infection in 2029, allowing him to run a schismatic shadow government from the actual grounds. Sort of like that guy who made himself a house inside a Toys R Us sign.
Like @crowmanyclouds mentions, the fiscal year runs from October. And the reasons things stop right then and there is because no funds are being allocated. The House has the power of the purse, and if they don’t allocate funds then those funds aren’t distributed and without those funds many government entities can’t function. Imagine a restaurant that suddenly couldn’t pay its employees, purchase supplies, food, or pay the electrical bill. They’d have to shut down.
A key Trump ally says a federal grand jury has been empaneled in Florida that will begin meeting in January to investigate what he calls a decade-long conspiracy against President Donald Trump.
-Snip-
In an interview on “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Davis said his “buddy” Jason Quiñones – the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida – moved to empanel the grand jury after Davis “pushed very hard” to investigate what he says is a conspiracy against Trump.
Davis has suggested that top officials, including former Attorney General Merrick Garland, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, FBI Director Chris Wray and Special Counsel Jack Smith should be compelled to testify before the grand jury to answer questions about what Davis says is the politicized use of the legal system.
So far all his tip-toeing through the tulips to avoid looking political, Merrick Garland could end up getting sent to jail for being political. Gee, I wish someone had figured out years ago that every single thing he did was going to be categorized as political whether it was intended as such or not.
I guess if Garland really wants to insulate himself against such charges, he should start campaigning for President right now.
Presumably Merrick Garland has a decently-high IQ. Yet he was never able to figure this out.
Crazy as that sounds, it would likely be his only chance to avoid incarceration.
Of course his ploy would be challenged. But hey, it would be fun to watch the corrupt Justices try to come up with some fancy language to say, without saying it outright, “IOKWARDI”…
FWIW, I prefer IOKIARDI (‘Ee-oh-kee-AR-dee’): ‘It’s OK if a Republican does it.’ It’s the first version I heard, years ago. I don’t know which came first though.
