The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

Same here. Except both of us are learning. I did apply for a CCW, but don’t intend to carry a firearm around.

Not quite related to this thread: A friend who wanted to learn to shoot found the easiest way to do that in Colorado is to take the concealed carry classes, and then get a concealed carry permit at the end. Despite the permit, he’s only ever carried a gun when traveling back and forth to the range.

I hate even the appearance of defending Trump’s actions, but people trying to spin Maduro as the innocent leader of a democratic country are not helping the cause of fighting Trump. Trump can be bad, and Maduro can also be bad, and Maduro being bad does not mean bombing and arresting him was good, even though Maduro not being in power is probably good.

Hm…whom do you want to shoot??

I haven’t seen anyone doing that. Okay, one person upthread did characterize Venezuela as “democratic” which I agree is inaccurate—but outside of that somewhat offhand remark, I don’t see people saying ‘what Trump did is bad because Maduro is an innocent leader of a democratic country.’

Most who oppose Trump and are speaking publicly about this do mention at some point that Maduro is a bad guy, and that his regime is NOT democratic.

The problem isn’t whether Trump decides to kidnap good guys or bad guys—the problem is Trump kidnapping anyone at all.

Anyone that attacks us. I feel that this is reasonable.

Are you saying it is o.k. for agents to invade our country and shoot Trump?

Say what you like about the Praetorian Guard, they had a way of persuading emperors to step down if they got a little too nutty.

Really? Do you really think the balance of probabilities favours a good outcome?

This (an impending, off-topic firearm debate) is the kind of diversion that does nothing but benefit Trump – something I’m disinclined to either do or promote.

YMMV, of course.

The Corporation For Public Broadcasting: officially dead.
Republicans, go fuck yourselves.

Just in to add: in his first time Trump increased drone strikes by 400%. Apparently Biden reduced it then back to before.
Not sure how it is currently - Trump tried to hide the numbers, after all.
At least Barack had the balls to openly say “We attacked this many, and killed so many innocents” (so to speak - no doubt there was fudging of data, but at least data was provided).

So, in another system of government a long, long time ago sometimes something else happened.

How nice.

Yes I do. I would not stand down.

Let me clarify what I just said. I’ve been shooting guns since I was 9 years old. I know and obay the rules of guns. Guns are to be handled with great care, and you must respect what they can do.

I feel that Trump has sent this country over a cliff. And he does not know that. He is completely and totaly clueless. I doubt that MAGA’s will march down the street. But I would like to be ready if they do.

I can’t believe we have come to this point. But here we are.

He absolutely knows that and it was his intention, he has literally and figuratively destroyed old institutions and has no intention of relinquishing power, nor does his administration. Life after Trump will be worse than it is now.

I think he’s too stupid to realize that he is ruining things. Look at his history in business. He thinks he’s doing great things.

He is, and always was, the playground bully. He has no concept of what his actions create.

He may be intentionally destroying the country because some speck of consciousness realizes that the world and most of the country despise him. That’s more playground bully bullshit though.

He’s a menace. That’s all there is to it.

Is it time to change the thread title to “The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring accurate?”

Can we have a show of hands?

I would nominate “Trump did whatever he wanted and nobody stopped him.”

How about “What kind of person is bored by Trump’s numerous attacks on Democracy?”

Look, Trump can’t do everything he wants. He and his administration are only getting away with 60-70% of the unconstitutional or otherwise illegal activities they’re engaged in. And have faced no consequences whatsoever for the ones that the courts have managed to stop, pause or slow down but at least it proves that he couldn’t just do them.

Yet.
