The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

Speaking of insinuations: you keep dragging out this hyperbolic strawman over and over and over again even though it’s been repeatedly explained to you that no one literally thinks that.

Your inability to make an honest argument is rather telling in itself.

Not with the proverbial gun to my head would I read All. This. Shit. again, but I will just post a comment that I offered in at least one of the previous Smapti Shit Shows: Why did Adolf Hitler wait/take/need seven years in power before invading Poland, and isn’t the fact that he didn’t invade Poland in 1933 or 1934 proof positive that he would never go on to invade Poland?

Oh, and … one more quickie: when a prison escape attempt is foiled, do the warden and the COs let their proverbial guard down, knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that the failed attempt would have completely satisfied any desire for freedom that the prisoners may have harbored, and that they’re no longer a problem? Is that usually when they’re proactively granted furloughs, work release, and conjugal visits?

TYVM.

Back to you in the studio…

Maybe one of the demons he summoned is commandeering his keyboard and arguing in bad faith on his behalf.

I’m done with arguing with MAGA and I’m done with arguing with their allies the “moderates” who constantly dismiss the threat that MAGA poses. MAGA is the parasite and the moderates are the host. For more than ten years they have been saying things like “I’m not worried,” all the while political norms were eroded, then they were saying “I’m not worried,” when actual laws were being broken, then they said “I’m not worried,” after a terrorist attack on the Capitol. They’re not worried because they’re fucking morons.

And let’s be honest, most of them are old white people who don’t really give a shit about other people or the country. They’ll be fine and that is all that matters to them.

I don’t disagree - but apparently that’s not enough for him. There are many actions he has taken where one of the issues is that “only Congress can do that” or “the law requires him to notify Congress”. Even when this Congress would almost certainly allow him to do what he wants - because the point isn’t to fire the head of an independent agency or to spend less mone. The point is to assert he doesn’t need Congressional approval. So the answer to “Why doesn’t he do X” is not going to be “he doesn’t need to”. It might be that he doesn’t want to do X, or it might be that somewhere in his lizard brain he actually realizes that it’s possible for him to go too far. There’s a reason he hasn’t tried to fire Jerome Powell yet and why he claims to have cause to fire Lisa Cook rather than just trying to fire her without even claiming to have cause.

Thanks for saying that the United States long term ally Canada is “very little”. I guess destroying that relationship is just not really very important, eh?

if Germany could win back the world’s trust after what happened 80 years ago, then surely it’s not impossible for us to do so.

I tell you what: If Trump offs himself in his bunker, and the entire Republican party is outlawed, I will consider thinking of your country as normal in a decade or so.

Also, Germany was able to be rehabilitated after it had been conquered, divide in two and occupied. People throw around the term Nuremberg Trials for Trumpist, but forget that they were administered by the allies, not the Germans. If America is defeated, has its fascist systems dismantled, its people re-educated and is rebuilt by the civilized world and monitored for a few decades mayyyybe it can be rehabilitated, but not in our lifetimes.

Yes, but only one side of that argument has the US military on its side, and it’s not going to be us.

I’ve asked multiple times HOW Trump is going to carry out any of this election cancelling or rigging or so on. The only answer I’ve gotten is “he’ll just do it and nobody will stop him”.

The only conclusion I can come to is that y’all think he’s omnipotent.

Who do you think will stop him!

After that bit of utter nonsense, can you guess what our only possible conclusion is?

Dude, there are so many ways.

There are so many ways just listed in this thread alone, in fact.

Sorry, tried to gift link this: Donald Trump’s Plan to Subvert the Midterms Is Already Under Way - The Atlantic

This is why I’ve previously said that you’re an idiot on this subject.

I could never – not in a million years – have come up with the “alternate slate of electors” gambit.

But they did.

Makes you wonder what else they might come up with, doesn’t it.

Why do you have such a profound blind spot on this subject? You appear to abandon all information, rational thought, and logic.

So weird.

I can only wonder with this thread.

I have huge faith in our laws/comgress/elections as does @smapti seems to.

But many others seem to have a “he’ll get away with anything, especially cancelling elections” schtick.

Personally, they’re always looking for a back door. Why not “accept” certain states votes? Say the states are under siege, at war with themselves, they eat the dogs, they eat the cats, yadda yadda. They’ll get a delay. Wait for SCOTUS to come to the rescue as they have for Trump in the past. Or maybe SCOTUS declines

Then find a way to delay new Dems taking their oaths. While filing EOs to investigate fund-raising scams. Calling a national threat..

I’m just saying, laws or no laws, they’ll find a way to hold onto a standstill of progress in Congress, with elections, but zero, zero progress.

Due process is out the window.

In the long run, the same kind of people who stopped him in 2020 - rank-and-file Republicans who aren’t willing to risk going to jail for him.

That was the best idea they could come up with. And it failed spectacularly.

I doubt they’ve gotten better at this since then.

Well he has pardoned a lot of people for a lot of heinous crimes. All of the insurrectionists have been released. He has also pardoned enough narcotics traffickers that his actions against Maduro are… inconsistent at best (although I am well aware hypocrisy has never killed a Republican and this is doubly true for MAGA). And then of course there’s the child molester. The most infamous child molester on planet earth right now other than Donald Trump himself. He made sure that she’s in a nice, comfortable jail cell where her every whim is catered to as if the staff at Camp Bryan personally work for her. And he’ll probably pardon her as soon as he thinks he can get away with it. So jail isn’t quite the threat it used to be.

This doesn’t mean they have given up and it definitely doesn’t mean they will stop trying. They don’t need to get better, they need to get lucky. And they are the luckiest sons of bitches on this planet.

Project 2025 brought together the most evil and devious minds they could find and spent four years scouring the Constitution and other landmark legal papers to find every loophole and one neat trick they can possibly exploit. They have already done things we couldn’t have imagined back then. They have gotten unbelievably better at this.

He pardoned Santos. I don’t think very many Trumpish government officials fear going to jail.
