The argument that Trump will do whatever he wants and no one can stop him is really fucking boring

To be fair, Jennings is also very smart. But his fame is certainly for memorizing trivia.

Regardless, just throwing a bunch of his statements out there and then declaring victory based on a badly-applied and barely coherent appeal to “authority” remains stupid and wrong.

In a thread where any sane person would have recognized long before now that they were embarrassing themselves, you have, with this, managed to set a new bar for self-humiliation.

Who is this idiot that thinks he is the teacher, and does he even know what class this is?

Maybe in your world.

I’m a 66 yr old Canadian and I can’t ever see going into the US ever again, which is a bloody shame. My wife and I honeymooned in New Hampshire, and we loved New England, I’ve worked with various US exchange officers in my military career, as well with various USN officers in different situations, and have always thought really highly of them. I’ve loved the space program and, as something of an aviation buff, love watching American aerospace development.

But now I know this - there’s a very substantial population of ignorant low-lives there (and yes, there are lots of Canadian low-lives) who now have permission to demonstrate their low-lifery. And also, no matter how positive things get politically in the US, I’m sure that there will now always be border guards who will be a threat.

I live on the Canadian border and we visit Canada nearly every year. I hope that things don’t get so bad that we cannot visit your great country. We are planning our summer cycling trip and it is 100% in Canada (Vancouver and Gulf Islands).

I fear things fall apart enough that that isn’t possible.

Me too. The Peace Arch is four linear miles away.

I grew up on the border except on Vancouver Island. The town of Ladysmith is on the 49th Parallel. If the border did split the Island, I’d have grown up in the USA. However, I was born in Nanaimo so I’d still be Canadian.

Right now you couldn’t pay me to travel to the US, even though I did go to Trump’s America back in 2018. With border guards checking social media, I would be deeply unwelcome based on the many, many comments I have made about what a piece of shit Trump is. And based on what just happened in Minneapolis, there is a decent chance that a border guard might simply shoot me for failing to comply with some ambiguous instruction. No thanks, I’ll wait until sanity has been restored and at least some members of the Trump regime have been thrown in jail. Yes, I am aware I might be waiting for a while.

And it’s not simply a question of travel to the US anymore. I don’t believe that it’s unrealistic to expect that if NATO collapses or is sufficiently broken, travel to Europe in a year or two won’t be advisable either. I saw an interview with NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Cyber and Hybrid, in which he said that “…the happy time after the end of the Cold War has ended….” I believe that we are all on the cusp of witnessing the start of a possible new dark ages, essentially chosen by Putin and enabled by Trump/Miller. I think that we are all on a knife’s edge in which anything, no matter how unimaginable, is possible as long a Trump and his ilk are still in power and, every day when I watch the latest in current events, I ask myself and my wife if this is what Europeans felt like listening the news in 1938 and early ‘39.

The rest of the world should condemn him for the mass murderer he is. If there’s a warrant out for Putin, there should be one for trump. Do the boat strikes make him a serial killer?

Trump will also be, almost singlehandedly, responsible for humanity’s failure to mitigate the climate crisis. Obviously any country will want a survivable economy and, if the one superpower is going through away any environmental consciousness, then that means all bets are off for everybody else.

The world is now toast.

I know this has been posted in some other Trump threads, but it needs to be mentioned in here. Fortunately, we now know what will stop Trump. His own morality!

Trump says his power is ‘limited by my morality’ in CBS interview

Dokoupil, who began his role as the new anchor of CBS Evening News on Jan. 5, was following up on remarks Trump made last week to the New York Times when asked if there were any limits to his global powers.

“Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me," Trump said on the heels of the United States’ capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and as Trump pushes the acquisition of Greenland from Denmark, among other foreign objectives.

As cartoonish as it is, whenever he talks it reminds me of Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars (when he was still just a senator and hiding his identity). When a minion asks him if his actions are legal, he replies “I’ll make it legal”.

Morality? He forgot a ‘t’ in there. That’s all that’s gonna stop him.

He can barely speak, I’m sure he can’t spell.

He’s never had any form of morality, so it’s technically true. In the same sense it would be true if he claimed that his movement is only constrained by the invisible force fields surrounding him.
