Just saw it a few hours ago, and that’s about as hard as I’ve ever laughed at a movie. I think my prize for best joke goes to Sarah Silverman. Before the movie, they screened a promo for her upcoming movie, “Jesus is Magic.” Looks hilarious. I’m now a full-blown Sarah Silverman fan. ---

I thought it was a very odd cross-section of comedians, and I was wondering if it was a conscious choice, if it was just who they could get. I’m not especially a fan of stand up, I admit, but half the people I had never heard of, or vaguely remembered from the eighties. The few “A-list” comedians they had seemed sort of shoehorned in: Eddie Izzard didn’t even know the joke and seemed generally confused, Jon Stewart avoided telling it and seemed bored. I would have liked to have seen more Chris Rock, Michael McKean, and Harry Schearer. I also wish they could have gotten David Cross, Wanda Sykes, and Margaret Cho. ---

Sexual humor, scatological humor, some racial humor, Carrot Top… the movie’s tagline promises “unspeakable obscenity,” but they actually speak quite a lot of it. 🙂 ---

Have any of you who have seen it been offended by any of it? I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve been offended by lotsa things that I also acknowledge are gut-bustingly funny. For example, I’m cool with MOST South Park Jesus material, BUT the Stations of the Cross ep & Jesus’s embarrassed look at Chef’s Q about if anyone hasn’t slept with Cartman’s Mom made me wince a LOT. ---

Assuming you’re not completely revolted at the outset - and I think most people who see this movie aren’t easy to offend - I’m not sure you’d be offended. The movie kind of sweeps you up and carries you along. Individual details are more and less disgusting, but after a while I think most people probably just want to see where it goes. I’m not into gross-out humor, but I enjoyed the boundary-pushing all the same and came away from the film with a new appreciation for the disgusting. ---

However, there’s a good chance the theatre won’t let her in, as the movie is unrated. A theatre here in New York turned away my 12 year old brother when his father tried to take him. ---

Yes, her parents are okay with it; we explained the premise, saying they tell perverted things, plus the punch line. 13 year olds seem to like those sort of shocking ideas. I will call the theatre though. ---

I saw the very first showing in town yesterday afternoon. I laughed so hard that I got a headache. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. I, too, am hopelessly in love with Sarah Silverman now. ---

Just got back from seeing it. I thought it was hilarious - yeah, it had a few slow spots, but overall it was great. Aside from the comedians already mentioned, I thought that Andy Richter and Doug Stanhope’s intercut versions were just an added level of twisted. I also got a kick out of Drew Carey’s little arm gesture. I think that’s the only time in my life I’ve ever laughed at a mime. I actually want to see it again, and I don’t know if I can wait for the DVD to come out - although if there’s extra footage I’ll be buying it. ---
